Mechanized service teams are stepping up their activities, assisting farmers in preparing the land for planting the 2026 summer-autumn rice crop.

Proactive plowing, soil drying, and thorough preparation from the beginning of the season are considered decisive factors in the success of the crop. According to Mr. Nguyen Vu Truong, Director of Kinh Don Agricultural Service Cooperative (Da Bac commune), early plowing, prolonged soil drying, and thorough soil improvement help eliminate residual pathogens from the previous season, increase soil porosity, thereby helping rice plants absorb nutrients better and significantly reduce fertilizer costs.

Notably, farmers have changed their farming practices to adapt to the weather. Mr. Tran Van Kiet, Head of Hamlet 30 (An Xuyen Ward), said: "This year, most farmers in the hamlet no longer apply the dry sowing method as before, but wait for stable rainfall to proceed with sowing under the cover or with water, in order to minimize risks and help the rice plants grow more favorably. It is expected that planting will begin simultaneously in early June."

Farmers are soaking and germinating rice seeds for the summer-autumn crop.

Ms. Lam Be Bay (Hamlet 28, An Xuyen Ward) said that after the previous rice crop yielded high productivity, her family continued to choose the Dai Thom 8 rice variety for this year's summer-autumn crop and waited for the fields to have enough water before plowing and sowing.

The entire province has planted over 5,300 hectares of summer-autumn rice in 2026. The rice crops are currently mostly in the seedling stage.

To achieve the best harvest results, Ms. Nguyen Thi Kieu Khuyen, Deputy Director of the Ca Mau Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, advises: For the summer-autumn crop, which is usually planted at the beginning of the rainy season and harvested in late July and August (the peak period of storms and heavy rain), farmers should prioritize choosing strong, resilient rice varieties to minimize lodging during flowering and ripening. In addition, sparse sowing, balanced fertilization, and good pest management are necessary to promote healthy rice plant growth, improve yield and grain quality, and reduce production costs.
