In recent days, the mooncake shop owned by the family of Mr. Phuong Trien Phong (45 years old), located on Pham Phu Thu Street (District 6, Ho Chi Minh City), has become famous on social media even before officially opening for business, with customers flocking in droves.
Some customers reported having to wait over an hour to buy a cake, and at times the shop had to temporarily suspend sales to focus on producing more cakes to meet the sudden surge in customer demand.
Phong's family mooncake shop has been dubbed the "hottest" mooncake shop in Ho Chi Minh City this Mid-Autumn Festival season on social media, with customers flocking there for weeks.
It wasn't even 7 a.m. yet, and although the bakery hadn't opened, a long line of people had already formed, waiting to buy mooncakes. Due to the large crowd, law enforcement was present to maintain security and order.

Ms. Vy (a resident of District 6) said she is a regular customer at this bakery because it's near her house. However, this year's Mid-Autumn Festival was her first time buying mooncakes and she was surprised by the large crowd. "It wasn't this crowded in previous years, this year it's too much!", the customer commented.
As noon approached, the crowd grew larger. When the shop started selling, customers jostled to buy mooncakes. Among the people waiting in line, Ms. Van (26 years old, residing in District 5) said that this was her first year buying mooncakes from this shop. She learned about the shop when it became famous on social media. "This is the 10th time I've lined up to buy mooncakes this Mid-Autumn Festival, mainly for my relatives. In previous years, the longest queue was over an hour and a half. The wait is long, but the quality of the mooncakes is worth it," she said.

Ms. Vân (wearing glasses) said that the cakes at the shop weren't too sweet, tasted just right, and she would continue buying them in the coming years.
The staff in the shop have been busy since morning.
Speaking to Thanh Nien newspaper this morning, September 15th, Mr. Phong, the owner of the shop, said that in his family's decades of selling mooncakes, he had never witnessed such a large crowd of customers surrounding the shop as this year. He sold out of mooncakes by noon and had to temporarily close the shop to make more, reopening around 6 PM.
"I've worked here for six years, and I've never seen as many customers as this year," a staff member shared.
Phong's family mooncake shop originated from a shop selling Western-style pastries (cookies, cakes, etc.) founded by Phong's father, Mr. Phuong Diem Thuan, before 1975.
Since 1987, the shop has switched to making mooncakes with a Teochew flavor. His family learned the mooncake-making trade from a once-famous bakery in Cholon, which is now gone. Mr. Thuan has 10 children, 3 of whom live abroad, so the current bakery is inherited by his other children, with Phong, his youngest son, being the main manager.
