These are manuscripts of musical compositions that have been carefully preserved by the musician and his family for many years, including many manuscripts of famous works such as: “Quan Ho girls”, “A glimpse of West Lake”, “Lake on the mountain”, “Also a ferry”, “Nha Trang autumn”, “On the top of Phu Van”, “Flowing away, oh river”, “Wandering song”, “Bach Dang – sacred river”, “Legend of Ho Nui Coc”, “Prai Nguyen”, “Cannot and can”… In addition, in the document block there are also manuscripts of scores for musicals and film music: “Tam Cam”, “Stage and life”, “Truong Ba’s soul – Butcher’s skin”, “What cannot be lost”…
Musician Pho Duc Phuong (1944 – 2020), from Da Nguu village, Tan Tien commune, Van Giang, Hung Yen. At the age of 18, he passed the entrance exam to the Mathematics Department of the University of Education, but because of his passion for music, he continued to take the entrance exam to the Vietnam Conservatory of Music and graduated in 1966.
Musician Pho Duc Phuong always seeks and exploits the quintessence of folk music from each region to incorporate into his works. Audiences love his works of all generations, ages, and classes, because they not only have beautiful melodies and good lyrics, but also meanings associated with the current events of the country and the lives of the Vietnamese people.
His typical compositions include: “Quan Ho girls”, “Lake on the mountain”, “Legend of Ho Nui Coc”, “A glimpse of Tay Ho”, “Sapa dream”, “Mong mi”, “Tien dinh Phu Van”, “Chay di song oi”, “Truong Chi”... He also wrote music for dozens of films: “The children”, “Full moon”, “Luu lang”, “Giong to”... and music for many stage plays such as: “Hon Truong Ba da hang butcher”, “Nguoi sang trong doi”, “Me va chung ta”, “Ngheu om oc hen”, “Thay khoa lang toi”, “Rung truc”...
With his tireless creative work, the musician was nominated for the "Dedication" award and several other prestigious awards. In 2001, he was awarded the State Prize for Literature and Arts for the works: "Quan Ho Girls", "Lake on the Mountain", "A Glimpse of West Lake", "Nha Trang Autumn", "On the Top of Phu Van".
In addition to his role as a composer, he is also one of the founders of the Vietnam Center for Music Copyright Protection, making great contributions to protecting the rights of domestic musicians.
Receiving the documents from the relatives of musician Pho Duc Phuong, Dr. Tran Viet Hoa, Director of National Archives Center III, said that these documents are valuable and have important significance in researching the life and career of the musician and are also an important source of information to serve the research of the history of Vietnamese revolutionary music in general as well as other research needs of social life. The event once again honored the musician's contributions to music composition, while also contributing to affirming the role of archival work in preserving the nation's cultural heritage. In the coming time, the Center will continue to promote and spread the values of the musician's musical works, serving the entertainment, information and cultural needs of the public and society.
