On June 27th, a delegation from the Hanoi City Center for Disease Control (CDC), led by Mr. Khong Minh Tuan - Deputy Director of the Center, worked directly with the Me Linh District Health Center and Me Linh Commune on the implementation of measures to prevent and control rabies outbreaks in the area.

According to a report from the People's Committee of Me Linh commune (Me Linh district, Hanoi ), immediately after receiving complaints from residents about a dog (owned by a household) in Lieu Tri village repeatedly biting six people and several other dogs, the relevant authorities promptly handled the situation as instructed.

Specifically, the People's Committee of the commune reported the case and sent samples from the suspected rabies-infected dog to the Central Veterinary Diagnostic Center for testing. The results showed that the dog tested positive for the rabies virus, and local authorities organized the disposal of the dog's carcass according to regulations.

By June 27th, investigations had resulted in the culling of 18 dogs in the area surrounding the rabid dog; rabies vaccinations were administered, including catch-up vaccinations for unvaccinated or deactivated dogs and cats, newly acquired pets, and young animals, following the guidance of veterinary experts.

For the six people bitten by the dog, preventive treatment such as rabies vaccination and human anti-rabies serum infusion were administered; health workers at Me Linh Commune Health Station instructed the people to monitor and maintain their health...

Me Linh commune has carried out disinfection and sterilization in the affected area and throughout Lieu Tri village as per regulations.

During an inspection and working session with local authorities, Deputy Director of the Hanoi CDC, Khong Minh Tuan, requested the Me Linh District Health Center and the Me Linh Commune Health Station to proactively strengthen rabies prevention and control efforts; and to intensify widespread public awareness campaigns to encourage dog owners to take responsibility for disease prevention and comply with rabies vaccination requirements.

Mr. Tuan emphasized that rabies is dangerous and there is no specific treatment, but it is completely preventable. Therefore, people need to properly implement measures such as vaccinating 100% of their dogs and cats as recommended by the veterinary industry; paying attention to keeping them leashed or confined when raising them and muzzling them when taking them out in public.

When you discover a suspected case of rabies in a dog, a dog that has bitten multiple people, or many dogs and cats in the area that are sick or dying from unknown causes, you should immediately report it to the local authorities. If you are bitten by a dog or cat, you should immediately go to a medical facility for timely preventive treatment
