Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy, Deputy Director of the Export Support Center, Trade Promotion Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), stated: In reality, trade activities between Vietnam and China have recorded high growth in recent times. However, a large portion of Vietnamese fruit is still exported through border trade, small-scale trade, and directly to southern Chinese provinces bordering Vietnam, such as Guangxi and Yunnan. To develop sustainable exports and facilitate the consumption of Vietnamese fruit in the Chinese market, on September 29-30, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, organized the first Fruit Festival in Beijing, in cooperation with the Vietnamese Embassy in China, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, and Chinese partners.
According to the Trade Promotion Bureau, the first Fruit Festival in Beijing, themed "Vietnamese Fruits - Delicious in All Seasons" (Vietnamese transliteration: Vietnam Fruits - Four Seasons of Delicious Flavors), aims to highlight the superior quality of Vietnamese fruits, which are delicious and have distinctive flavors compared to fruits not grown in the unique climate and soil conditions of Vietnam.
“ Organizing this festival will contribute to bringing Vietnamese fruits closer to markets with high consumer demand. The products participating this time will mainly be high-end fruit items. With the message of showcasing class , sophistication, and luxury from the design of the exhibition space to the quality of the products , we hope to bring the most distinctive essence of Vietnam to the Chinese market ,” emphasized Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy.
Connecting and expanding Vietnamese fruit exports to the market of 1.4 billion people.
The first Fruit Festival in Beijing is one of the important trade promotion events for the Chinese market, focusing on fresh fruits and vegetables and processed products derived from them that have been officially permitted for import into China. Specifically, 12 types of Vietnamese fruits are currently among the top-ranked in terms of official export value to China: mangoes, dragon fruit, bananas, longan, lychee, watermelon, rambutan, jackfruit, mangosteen, passion fruit, durian, and coconut. Among these, durian is the strongest performing product in the Chinese market.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in 2023, Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports reached US$5.69 billion; of which, durian was the sector with the most impressive growth, bringing in US$2.3 billion, a 4.8-fold increase compared to the same period last year. Besides fresh whole durian, exports of frozen and dried durian also recorded a strong increase.
As one of the businesses participating in this year's Fruit Festival, Ms. Ngo Tuong Vy - General Director of Chanh Thu Fruit Import-Export Group Joint Stock Company - assessed the significance of the festival, stating that the company is bringing its main products such as fresh durian (Dona, Ri6, Musangking, Black Thorn), various types of fresh coconut (bald coconut, diamond coconut, ring coconut, open-mouth coconut), passion fruit, frozen durian products and freeze-dried durian, all of which are strong products of Vietnam.

“This festival is an opportunity for not only Chanh Thu Group but all Vietnamese agricultural businesses to affirm the quality and value of their products on the international stage, especially in China – a strategic market. We expect that participating in this festival will bring opportunities to expand business relationships and connect with potential partners in China. At the same time, it can help Vietnamese fruit products in general and Chanh Thu branded fruits in particular to enhance brand recognition, thereby affirming the quality of Vietnamese fruit on the international market,” said Ms. Ngo Tuong Vy.
Beijing, the capital and political, economic, and cultural center of China, is a high-value market with high demand. According to experts, organizing a fruit festival in Beijing to promote the brand and image of delicious and nutritious Vietnamese tropical fruits will attract the attention and participation of numerous Chinese and international businesses. This will be a good opportunity for Vietnamese producers and suppliers to introduce and promote their typical fruit products, as well as to find customers and strengthen trade activities. This event will open up opportunities and provide experience in organizing more regular specialized festivals not only in Beijing but also in other central and northern regions of China, aiming to connect and expand Vietnamese fruit exports to this market.
