The new Ho Chi Minh City was formed on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population size of Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong.
After the arrangement, Ho Chi Minh City has a natural area of more than 6,722km2 and a population of more than 14 million people.

At 8:00 a.m. this morning, June 30, all localities across the country will hold ceremonies to announce the Resolutions and Decisions of the Central and local governments on merging administrative units, establishing Party organizations, and appointing personnel for provinces, cities, communes, wards, and special zones to officially operate from July 1.
The Politburo and the Secretariat have assigned comrades in the Politburo and the Secretariat to attend the announcement ceremony in localities. The provincial and municipal Party Committees have assigned members of the Standing Committee and members of the Party Executive Committee of the provincial and municipal Party Committees to attend and direct the ceremony to hand over the Resolutions and Decisions of the Central Committee and of the provincial and municipal Party Committees to communes, wards and special economic zones under their management, similar to the ceremony to announce the Resolutions and Decisions of the Central Committee to the provinces and municipalities, and to complete it by June 30.
