During the meetings, talks and conferences, the Vietnamese leaders welcomed President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka's visit to Vietnam on the occasion of the two countries celebrating the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations; highly appreciated the President for accepting the invitation to attend and speak at the opening ceremony of the Vesak Festival; thanked the President for sending a congratulatory letter on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification; and emphasized that this is a particularly important event, not only for the Vietnamese people but also for international friends, including Sri Lanka, who have accompanied, supported and helped Vietnam in the resistance war for national independence.
Expressing his joy at visiting Vietnam, the first Southeast Asian country to visit after taking office, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka expressed his admiration for Vietnam's impressive development after 50 years of liberating the South and unifying the country; Vietnam has risen to become one of the fastest growing economies in the world, with GDP ranking 32nd in the world, and playing an important role and position in the region and the world.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka said that the leaders and people of Sri Lanka always have warm friendship for Vietnam and President Ho Chi Minh; admire Vietnam's indomitable fighting spirit during the war as well as in national construction, and wish to learn from Vietnam's development experience.
The leaders of the two countries had in-depth discussions on bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern. The leaders expressed their satisfaction with the development of the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries over the past 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations on July 21, 1970; reinforced by high political trust, close ties and warm sentiments between the two peoples. The leaders affirmed that the warm friendship and valuable support that the two countries have given to each other in the cause of national development lay a solid foundation for further strengthening and deepening the Vietnam - Sri Lanka relationship in the future.
On this occasion, the leaders of the two countries issued a Joint Statement, agreeing on major directions to bring bilateral relations to new heights.
During the visit, President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka visited Bai Dinh Pagoda in Ninh Binh Province and Vingroup Corporation's headquarters in Hanoi.
President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka also attended the United Nations Vesak Day on May 6, 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City as the chief guest and delivered an important speech, reaffirming the long-standing Buddhist ties between the two countries.
The State visit to Vietnam by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka is an opportunity for the leaders of the two countries to reaffirm the policy of attaching importance to the long-standing traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries and to commit to working together to develop cooperation in a more positive, open and innovative direction, on the basis of common interests, making the best use of the potential and advantages of each side.
