Following their 0-1 defeat to Sunderland in the 32nd round of the English Premier League (April 12th), Tottenham dropped to 18th place – a position that would see the North London club relegated to the English Championship (EFL Championship) if they fail to improve their points total in the following rounds.
Tottenham are preparing for the 2025-2026 Premier League season by spending nearly £200 million to upgrade their squad with blockbuster signings such as Xavi Simons and Kudus, after parting ways with star player Son Heung-min.
But Tottenham have suffered a dramatic decline. From a position of competing for the title or at least securing a place in European competition, Tottenham now face a very high risk of relegation.
Then, when the situation worsened, Tottenham appointed their third manager of the season - Roberto De Zerbi - and there was still no sign of improvement.
Tottenham displayed a lackluster and careless performance in defense and a lack of vitality in attack throughout the 90 minutes of their clash with Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

According to Opta, Tottenham's relegation rate is as high as 46.50% (the third highest), behind only Wolverhampton and Burnley with a 100% relegation rate.
This assessment is not without basis, as in their next six matches, Tottenham will face Brighton, Wolverhampton, Aston Villa, Leeds, Chelsea, and Everton in succession.
Looking at the current form, the remaining opponents are all considered stronger than "Spurs" - except for Wolverhampton and Leeds.
And if they want to stay in the Premier League, Tottenham Hotspur will have to win against Wolverhampton (bottom of the table) and direct rivals Leeds (currently 3 points behind).
At the same time, Tottenham must try to earn as many points as possible and hope that their relegation rivals, who are in better form, such as West Ham (unbeaten in their last 5 matches) and Leeds (unbeaten in their last 4 matches), slip up.
Time is running out, and manager Roberto De Zerbi and his players must show a completely different face if they still want to participate in the top league of England.
