According to GaadiWaadi , Toyota may launch the next-generation Fortuner globally by the end of fiscal year 2026. Production and sales of the new model are expected to begin in international markets thereafter.
In Asia, India is likely to be one of the first markets to receive the vehicle after its global launch. For many years, the Fortuner has consistently been among Toyota's most successful sales contributors in this massive market.
Recent images of test vehicles suggest that Toyota is significantly accelerating the development process.
The cabin is predicted to be the area undergoing the most significant changes in the new generation Fortuner. The vehicle may be equipped with two 12.3-inch screens, including a digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment screen, along with connectivity and over-the-air (OTA) software updates, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, an upgraded air conditioning system, and a more comprehensive ADAS driver assistance package.
This is considered a significant upgrade for the Toyota Fortuner, especially as many competitors are racing to upgrade their equipment and technology.
In terms of platform, this SUV model is expected to switch to Toyota's new TNGA-F body-on-frame chassis, which is already being used on the new generation of the Toyota Hilux.
This platform promises improved body rigidity, enhanced performance both on-road and off-road, while maintaining the durability that is a strength of the Fortuner.
The exterior design has also been significantly changed, with many similarities to the new generation Hilux pickup truck. The front end features slimmer LED headlights, an enlarged grille, and a more sporty- looking front bumper.
The car's body retains its familiar muscular styling but features sharper creases, a refined steering column, and newly designed wheels.
At the rear, the new generation Fortuner may feature a full-width LED light strip and the word "Fortuner" placed in the middle of the tailgate – a style that has been appearing on many Toyota SUV models globally recently.
Furthermore, Toyota is likely to add a hybrid option to the Fortuner in some international markets, similar to the direction the company is taking with the Toyota Innova Hybrid and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hybrid in India.
However, it remains unclear whether a hybrid version will be available right from launch. This will depend on the pricing strategy and actual demand in each market.
In Vietnam, the Toyota Fortuner is currently officially distributed in two variants: the standard version and the Legender version. This Japanese SUV competes with rivals such as the Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.
