On the afternoon of March 4th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training submitted a proposal to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee regarding the announcement of the entrance exam date for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2026-2027 academic year.
According to the Department's proposal, in order to ensure the completion of the curriculum and to prepare well for the plan to mobilize children to attend school and enroll students at the beginning of the 2026-2027 school year, the Department is submitting to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee a proposal for the entrance exam to public high schools in the 2026-2027 school year to be tentatively held on June 1st and 2nd.
Therefore, the high school entrance exam schedule in Ho Chi Minh City this year may take place one week earlier than last year. The reason for this change is said to be to ensure sufficient time for organization, as the Ministry of Education and Training plans to hold the high school graduation exam on June 11th and 12th.

It is known that the 2026-2027 Ho Chi Minh City 10th grade entrance exam will be a combination of entrance exam and selection based on academic records. Selection based on academic records is expected to apply to students from Thanh An island commune and Con Dao special zone, while the entrance exam will be applied to all other students.
For the entrance exam, the test will consist of three subjects: Literature, Mathematics, and Foreign Language. Students applying to specialized and integrated 10th-grade classes will also take an additional exam in their respective specialized and integrated subjects.
In this exam, Literature and Mathematics have a time limit of 120 minutes each; Foreign Language has a time limit of 90 minutes; and specialized and integrated subjects have a time limit of 150 minutes.
According to the Department of Education and Training, the 10th grade exam will maintain the same structure as last year, with the knowledge scope mainly focusing on grades 8 and 9, and the difficulty level will be adjusted to suit the abilities of students throughout the city after the merger.
In the 2025-2026 school year, Ho Chi Minh City will have approximately 171,716 ninth-grade students (based on statistics up to the beginning of 2026). This group of students will participate in the entrance exam for tenth grade in the 2026-2027 school year, with at least 70% of them admitted to public schools, equivalent to more than 120,000 students.
