In order to improve the quality of health care services for people in the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau area and reduce the burden on end-line hospitals, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has just proposed to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to approve the policy of opening a second facility of the Oncology Hospital and the Obstetrics Hospital in this area.
The specific proposal is to hand over the land of Ba Ria Hospital (old) to Oncology Hospital to develop its second facility, and hand over the land of Le Loi Hospital (old) to Tu Du or Hung Vuong Hospital to expand its obstetrics and gynecology activities.
These two plots of land have been approved for detailed planning 1/500, identifying their function as medical land, completely consistent with the development orientation of Ho Chi Minh City's specialized hospital network in the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau area.

The Department of Health said that Tu Du and Hung Vuong Hospitals are both autonomous public service units of group 1, so they will use the Hospital Career Development Fund for investment, not the Ho Chi Minh City budget.
This is considered a breakthrough step in the strategy to expand the capacity to provide high-quality medical services, especially in two specialties that the old Ba Ria - Vung Tau region still lacks and is weak in, which are obstetrics and oncology.
Previously, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented many medical support activities for this area such as the program of rotating doctors from leading hospitals to work at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, or the program of transferring technology to Ba Ria and Vung Tau General Hospital.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, the establishment of a second facility of the final-level hospitals in the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area (old) will help shorten the distance to access high-quality medical services, while significantly reducing the load on hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Ho Chi Minh City health sector hopes that after the City approves the plan, it will coordinate with relevant departments and branches to develop a project to establish a second facility and submit it to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for approval as soon as possible.
