Last week, the measles situation in Ho Chi Minh City not only increased in number but also spread in scope. In particular, now that students have entered the new school year, there have been many measles outbreaks in schools. Meanwhile, the city estimates that there are nearly 61,000 children aged 1-5 and about 64,000 children aged 6-10 who have not received enough measles vaccine doses. Recently, the number of vaccinated children has mainly been concentrated in the age group of 1-5, while the number of children aged 6-10 has not been vaccinated much.
In the face of the above situation, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health said that the city needs to speed up the implementation of the measles vaccination campaign in the area. The plan is to basically complete the measles vaccination in September to reduce the spread of the disease and end the epidemic soon.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease. Most non-immune individuals develop the disease after contact with a person who has measles while infectious, and one case of measles can infect an average of 12 to 18 people.
Therefore, measles vaccination, whether carried out according to the strategy of "vaccination regardless of previous vaccination history" or the strategy of "vaccination for those who have not been fully vaccinated", must be carried out as soon as possible and as quickly as possible.
To speed up the progress of measles vaccination in the area, Vietnam Vaccine Joint Stock Company - Ho Chi Minh City Branch and FPT Long Chau Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company have sent a document to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, wishing to participate in the campaign of free measles vaccination for those who are vaccinated according to the instructions of the health sector.
The Department of Health has asked the two companies to direct their affiliated vaccination facilities to coordinate with local medical centers to implement a free measles vaccination campaign.
The campaign starts from September 16 until the end of the campaign with the City's vaccine source provided by local medical centers.
Thus, the measles vaccination campaign in the City will have 60 more vaccination points at private facilities (operating from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. every day, including Saturdays and Sundays.
At the same time, the District Medical Center, Thu Duc City will ensure that on Saturdays and Sundays, 1-2 vaccination points must be deployed for the convenience of the people.
According to the report of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control, from the beginning of 2024 to now, the total number of suspected measles rash fever cases in Ho Chi Minh City is 748 cases, including 581 measles cases. Districts with high number of cases include: Binh Chanh district, Binh Tan district and Hoc Mon district. Currently, the number of measles cases in Ho Chi Minh City continues to increase./.
