Trang Bang rose from the bombs and bullets of war.

A little girl, naked and severely burned by napalm, ran and cried along the village road with many other children. Behind her, thick plumes of black smoke billowed into the air. This is the image that comes to mind when recalling the fierce years of war in Trang Bang in 1972.

Central and provincial leaders attended the meeting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Trang Bang (April 29, 1975 – April 29, 2025).

Gateway land

Strategically located, Trang Bang is not only a gateway to Tay Ninh province but also connects the southeastern provinces of Vietnam with neighboring Cambodia. Since the 19th century, under the banner of national heroes such as Truong Quyen and Commander Ket, the people of Trang Bang enthusiastically participated in resistance movements against French colonial aggression. With the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam , the revolutionary spirit spread powerfully throughout the Trang Bang region.

In October 1940, the first Communist Party of Vietnam branch in Tay Ninh province was established in Rach Tram hamlet, Phuoc Chi commune (the western wing of Trang Bang town today). This event marked a crucial turning point, initiating the heroic and glorious revolutionary struggle of the Party Committee and people of Trang Bang and Tay Ninh province.

Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, in the autumn of August 1945, cadres, soldiers, and the people of Trang Bang, along with the people of the whole country, rose up in rebellion to seize power for the people. Shortly after gaining independence, the French colonialists returned to invade Saigon. Once again, the cadres, soldiers, and people of Trang Bang continued to rise up in resistance. The people and soldiers of Trang Bang, united and resilient, achieved a resounding victory at the Suoi Sau front on the morning of November 8, 1945.

During the war against the US, Trang Bang was famous for its revolutionary base areas such as the Rung Rong Oath Base, Boi Loi Base, and the Iron Triangle. Therefore, it became a target of fierce enemy attacks. The enemy employed almost all strategies and tactics, such as building a system of strategic hamlets throughout the Trang Bang countryside, establishing a puppet village and hamlet apparatus with the goal of suppressing the people, seizing land, forcing people into concentration camps, and relentlessly sweeping through the area, bombing, and using chemical weapons to tighten control over people's lives and suppress the revolutionary movement.

On June 8, 1968, American forces bombed a village in Trang Bang, killing and injuring many people.

Despite facing such a brutal war, the people and soldiers of Trang Bang did not retreat. The armed forces, the village and hamlet guerrilla units, the mothers, sisters, and schoolgirls all became resilient fighters on both the combat and logistical fronts.

For generations, the people of Trang Bang have gone to war, fighting evil and breaking the enemy's grip. The uprising movement of the people of Trang Bang was strong, providing effective support for major offensives, gradually expanding the liberated zone connecting with the Boi Loi base – the Central Committee of the Southern Region, contributing to resounding victories throughout the Southern battlefield.

At 4 PM on April 29, 1975, the army and people of Trang Bang planted the liberation flag on the roof of the puppet district chief's residence in Trang Bang, becoming the second district of Tay Ninh to be liberated before the liberation of Tay Ninh province and the liberation of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975.

Building a homeland from "blank land"

After liberation, Trang Bang was severely devastated, and the lives of all segments of the population were extremely impoverished. Through effort and determination, the Party Committee, government, and people of Trang Bang, upholding revolutionary traditions and unity, gradually overcame difficulties. From a "blank slate," Trang Bang effectively exploited its potential and advantages, building its homeland and achieving many important accomplishments in all fields.

Mr. Tran Tuong Quoc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Trang Bang town, said that looking back 50 years after liberation, under the leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, the attention and support of provincial departments and agencies, the unity of will of the Party Committee, and the joint efforts and sharing of all the people, Trang Bang has made great strides. From a purely agricultural district, Trang Bang has become one of the dynamic and developing towns, shifting its economic structure towards industrialization and modernization.

To date, Trang Bang is one of the nine districts, towns, and cities with the most industrial parks and export processing zones in the province. These areas attract increasing domestic and foreign investment, creating stable jobs for workers in Trang Bang in particular, and in and outside Tay Ninh province in general. Infrastructure is being prioritized, and the transportation system is being gradually improved and connected. The urban and rural landscapes have seen significant improvements.

Trang Bang has basically completed the task of building a new rural area and has been recognized as a type 3 urban area by the Ministry of Construction. The potential and strengths of Trang Bang are increasingly being unlocked, becoming one of the attractive locations for investors, creating a ripple effect and making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the province.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Trang Bang town added that, alongside economic development and socio-cultural development, activities of gratitude and care for policy beneficiary families, meritorious individuals, poor households, near-poor households, and households with difficult circumstances are always emphasized. The national unity bloc in the town is constantly being consolidated and strengthened.

The education and healthcare systems have received significant investment, better meeting the needs of the people. National defense and security have been maintained. Party building and rectification efforts have yielded comprehensive results. The political system from the town level to the grassroots has been consolidated and strengthened, becoming increasingly robust. The leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party committees and organizations have been enhanced. The effectiveness and efficiency of State agencies continue to improve, strengthening the people's trust in the Party and the State.

Despite achieving remarkable accomplishments, Mr. Tran Tuong Quoc stated that Trang Bang is not complacent with the current situation. The road ahead presents many challenges, requiring Trang Bang to further promote the spirit of unity and cohesion, focusing intensely on implementing key political tasks, especially the restructuring of the political system's organizational apparatus to be "lean, efficient, effective, and efficient" in accordance with the directives of the province and the central government; accelerating administrative reform, innovation, and creativity; making good use of resources; developing the potential and strengths of the locality; and training and building a team of capable and qualified cadres to develop science and technology, innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development, building the heroic Trang Bang homeland into an increasingly prosperous and thriving industrial center of the province.

Today, Trang Bang town has the most industrial parks and export processing zones in the province.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Trang Bang town affirmed that, on the path to a new era, the Party Committee, Government, and people of Trang Bang town are determined to build their homeland into an increasingly prosperous, beautiful, and civilized place, worthy of the endless epic written with blood, sweat, tears, and the silent sacrifices and contributions of countless generations, and worthy of the trust of cadres, Party members, and the people. Trang Bang, together with Tay Ninh province and the whole country, is steadily moving into a new era, an era of national progress.

During the two wars of resistance against colonial and imperialist invaders, more than 29,000 young men and women from Trang Bang left their homes to join the resistance, accounting for nearly one-third of Trang Bang's population at that time. Hundreds of thousands of people served as civilian laborers on the battlefield, and over 1 million cadres, soldiers, and civilians participated in direct combat against the enemy, many of whom were captured and imprisoned. 3,700 people bravely sacrificed their lives, some of whose remains have yet to be found; there are 580 Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, 10 Heroes of the People's Armed Forces, and 7 communes and towns that have been posthumously awarded the title of Hero by the State. Trang Bang District has been twice recognized as a Heroic District by the State; many sons and daughters of Trang Bang have become generals in the People's Armed Forces.
