Bamboo is present in many places in life: backyards, front yards, by fish ponds, in parks or cafe grounds. More than just a familiar image of Vietnamese rural life, bamboo evokes a sense of closeness, peace, and is deeply rooted in the nation's traditional culture.
Inspired by the idea of bringing the countryside into the heart of the city, Truc Linh Cafe (Linh Tien Hamlet, Thanh Sen Ward) chose bamboo as the main highlight in its design. The spacious lake, surrounded by lush green bamboo groves, gives visitors a feeling of closeness and relaxation amidst nature. Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan – owner of Truc Linh Cafe – shared: “The cafe's space is not only a place to enjoy coffee and meet friends, but also aims to spread the message of green living and environmental friendliness. The harmonious combination of nature and rustic architectural style has left many beautiful impressions on customers.” Right in the heart of Thanh Sen, the image of bamboo is also chosen by many businesses to create their own unique mark, from paintings and billboards to bamboo groves planted right in front of the entrances of cafes and restaurants.
In increasingly crowded urban spaces, incorporating bamboo imagery into architecture and landscape design not only creates a refreshing green focal point but also evokes familiar traditional values of Vietnamese villages.
The lush green bamboo groves, bamboo decorations, and rustic decor at Bambo Cafe (Thanh Sen Ward) create a unique atmosphere, offering a breezy, cool, and peaceful feeling for visitors. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, the owner of the cafe, shared: "The strategically placed greenery contributes to a harmonious overall design, ensuring both aesthetic appeal and a relaxing, comfortable ambiance."
Many types of bamboo and rattan are grown by the people, such as fatty bamboo, thorny bamboo, giant bamboo, striped yellow bamboo, chicken leg bamboo, dragon bamboo, or fishing rod bamboo… These are all adaptable species that grow well and are suitable for many different spaces.
The trend of incorporating greenery, especially bamboo, into cafe designs is becoming increasingly popular. Many modern homes cleverly incorporate a small bamboo grove under the skylight or near the entrance to create a refreshing and inviting green focal point. Amidst bustling neighborhoods, high-rise buildings, and modern structures, many people still cherish the image of green bamboo groves, reminiscent of Vietnamese villages, bringing a sense of familiarity and peace.
Mr. Le Van Khanh (Thanh Sen ward) shared: "The rustling sound of bamboo in the wind brings a feeling of relaxation and tranquility, helping me reminisce about childhood memories."
Not only in urban areas, but in recent times, localities have also implemented the planting of additional bamboo varieties along rivers and suburban areas such as the Dong River, Dong Ghe River, or Trang Lien Nhat village... Besides contributing to creating green landscapes, bamboo also helps to retain soil, limit erosion of embankments, and protect the ecological environment.
In Vietnamese culture and economy , bamboo has long been closely associated with daily life. Therefore, preserving the image of bamboo in urban areas not only creates a unique landscape but also reflects pride in preserving national identity. According to architect Vo Luc, Director of O2 Architecture JSC: “In the rhythm of modern urban life, incorporating bamboo into architectural and landscape spaces not only creates green areas and harmonizes the environment but also helps people rediscover closeness to nature and traditional values.” ( Photo: Ha Phuong)
