(QBĐT) - On the morning of May 17, at the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi, the Organizing Committee of the program "Heart for Children" began to conduct free screening for congenital heart disease for children under 18 years old in the province.

Attending the event were comrade Doan Ngoc Lam, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; representatives of the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel), Tam Long Viet Fund - Vietnam Television, Standing Committee of the Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee; departments, branches, units and medical staff of E Hospital, Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi.
This is the second time the program "Heart for Children" has come to children in Quang Binh province. This program is implemented by Viettel Quang Binh, Tam Long Viet Fund with the support of doctors from the Cardiovascular Center of E Hospital and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital Dong Hoi.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the program, Mr. Doan Ngoc Lam, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized that this is an activity with profound humanitarian meaning, rich in community spirit, contributing to bringing hope to families in difficult circumstances, with children with congenital heart disease.
On behalf of the provincial leaders, comrade Doan Ngoc Lam thanked the sponsor Viettel , the Tam Long Viet Fund and the medical staff of the two hospitals for devoting all their heart to the children in Quang Binh; at the same time, he called on agencies, businesses, organizations and individuals in the area to join hands with the program.

On May 17 and 18, children with suspected symptoms of congenital heart disease will be examined and given treatment advice by doctors. After screening, cases with indications for intervention/surgery and difficult circumstances will be guided by the program to complete the application for completely free treatment.
According to the Organizing Committee, as of 10:00 a.m. this morning, nearly 300 children had been screened and 16 cases were found to have congenital heart defects.

"Heart for Children" is a program that supports free surgery for poor children under 18 years old in Vietnam, supports improving medical capacity, and organizes congenital heart disease screening activities for children.
The program was founded and operated by the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel) and the Tam Long Viet Fund - Vietnam Television from 2008 to present. After 17 years of implementation, the program has supported surgery for more than 7,600 children with congenital heart disease and organized 111 screening programs for more than 175,000 children nationwide.
