(NADS) - On the afternoon of December 28th, in Hanoi , the Yen Bai Provincial Association of Literature and Arts held the opening ceremony of the photo exhibition and awarded prizes for the 2023 Art Photography Contest with the theme "Yen Bai - Where the Colors of the Northwest Converge".
Attending the ceremony were: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations ; Photographer Tran Thi Thu Dong, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists; and Painter Nguyen Dinh Thi, Chairman of the Yen Bai Union of Literature and Arts Associations and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Competition.
The 2023 Art Photography Contest, themed " Yen Bai - Where the Colors of the Northwest Converge," was the first of its kind organized nationwide by the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations in April 2023, attracting a large number of photographers from across the country.
As the professional sponsor of the Competition, the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists assisted the Organizing Committee in building a dedicated website for the Competition; introduced members to the Judging Panel; and helped promote and encourage members nationwide to actively participate in creating works about Yen Bai and in the Competition.
At the ceremony, photographer Tran Thi Thu Dong, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Associations of Literature and Arts, and President of the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists, stated: "This is the first art photography competition of Yen Bai province, organized on a national scale, aiming to promote the beauty of nature, daily life, traditional festivals, customs, beliefs, and characteristic products of the people of Yen Bai province; to encourage photographers to create many beautiful works, contributing to promoting the image of Yen Bai's land and people, spreading the image of Yen Bai to friends at home and abroad, and helping Yen Bai develop further in the direction of 'Green - Harmonious - Identity - Happy'." With a fairly broad range of themes, this competition is an exciting playground for photographers nationwide.
Speaking at the opening of the exhibition, artist Nguyen Dinh Thi - Chairman of the Yen Bai Union of Literature and Arts Associations and Head of the Organizing Committee of the competition - affirmed that this is a meaningful and unique activity for Yen Bai province to introduce to the public both domestically and internationally, especially to the public in Hanoi, the beauty of nature, people, and cultural identity of the ethnic groups in Yen Bai province. The art photography exhibition "Yen Bai - Where the Colors of the Northwest Converge" is a meaningful and unique cultural activity in the series of cultural activities in Hanoi to celebrate the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Lunar New Year of the Dragon 2024.
After more than 6 months, the competition website has received over 45,000 visits with 1,066 entries from 153 authors from 35 provinces and cities. These include: Yen Bai province with 181 entries from 21 authors; Hanoi with 319 entries from 44 authors; Ho Chi Minh City with 51 entries from 7 authors; Da Nang with 70 entries from 10 authors; Phu Tho province with 66 entries from 8 authors; Son La province with 55 entries from 7 authors; Bac Ninh province with 53 entries from 7 authors; Thua Thien Hue province with 31 entries from 4 authors; Lao Cai province with 28 entries from 5 authors… along with many other entries from domestic authors.
The judging panel has selected 100 outstanding works (26 photo sets and 74 individual photos) by 56 authors to be displayed and introduced to the public in Hanoi and tourists at Hanoi Book Street from December 28, 2023 to January 3, 2024.
At the awards ceremony, the Organizing Committee of the competition awarded 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 5 consolation prizes to the authors.
