Discover the emotional depth of the familiar.
In the art scene of Hanoi in early summer, "Rural Colors 11" by artist Quynh Thom offers viewers a unique experience by delving into the emotional depth of familiar images from Vietnamese life: fields after the harvest, old houses bathed in afternoon sun, tranquil pond banks, small dirt roads shrouded in early morning mist, farmers' faces with their genuine beauty, rustic flower arrangements placed in the quiet light of everyday life...
"Rural Colors 11" is like a return to cultural memories that are in danger of fading in the rhythm of modern life. With the strong shift towards urbanization, where many traditional values are constantly changing, painting has become a way to preserve memories. Many simple things of the countryside, through the skillful brushstrokes of the artist, have become symbols of Vietnamese cultural identity.

In the flow of contemporary art, the theme of rural life is not new. Many generations of Vietnamese artists have dedicated their lives to this familiar inspiration. From lacquer and silk paintings to modern oil paintings, images of the countryside have always appeared as an important source of cultural energy. However, continuing to explore this theme without repeating oneself is perhaps not easy. For artist Quynh Thom, his unique mark lies in the way he transforms memories into highly personal visual emotions.

This spirit is clearly felt through the 68 works on display. The landscapes do not follow a detailed, realistic style. The artist deliberately simplifies many elements, retaining only the lines and colors that evoke the strongest emotions. Bamboo swaying in the wind, the last rays of sunlight, the green fields stretching to the horizon… all are handled with a highly intuitive sensibility. The scenery appears both real and dreamlike, bearing more resemblance to memory than to reality.
This unique quality creates a special sense of empathy between Quynh Thom's paintings and the public. Viewers may not remember the exact name of the artwork, but they easily recognize the familiar feeling the paintings evoke. It's the feeling of the countryside from their childhood, of a summer afternoon still etched in their memories, or simply the rare tranquility amidst the pressures of urban life.

Before opening to the public, a professional meeting of the Art Council of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association took place at the 16 Ngo Quyen Exhibition House, with the participation of many artists, researchers, and art curators, to assess the artistic quality, the unity of the exhibition, and the exhibition's direction.
At the meeting, the judges noted that the 68 oil and acrylic paintings by artist Quynh Thom demonstrated a serious and persistent artistic spirit, along with consistent inspiration about her homeland, people, and life. The majority of the judging panel agreed that the highlight of "Homeland Colors 11" was its ability to evoke the depth of cultural memory; while the portraits and still lifes showed an expansion in the artist's creative thinking. The panel also highly appreciated the artist's musical handling of color, her free-flowing yet restrained brushstrokes, creating an overall emotional harmony.

Some experts believe that Quynh Thom's "Rural Colors" exhibition series is establishing her personal mark in the genre of Vietnamese landscape and village memory paintings. Her persistent pursuit of homeland themes over many years demonstrates the artist's creative prowess and contributes to evoking traditional cultural values in life.
Persistently preserving the "countryside charm" in our hearts.
Artist Quynh Thom shared that he never thought he would leave behind the things of his village. Even though life changes every day, his memories always bring to mind the winding road, the smell of fresh straw in the yard, the sound of roosters crowing in the evening from the small village, or the late afternoon sun shining on the old roof. "I paint with the desire to preserve these very simple things that sometimes we pass by too quickly and unintentionally forget," he said.

Perhaps that's why Quynh Thom's paintings easily resonate with the public. In the context of contemporary art increasingly leaning towards conceptual thinking and complex systems of expression, many mainstream audiences are hesitant to approach fine art. "Rural Colors 11" somewhat bridges that gap with its simple yet not monotonous visual language.

On its opening day, the exhibition attracted considerable attention from art enthusiasts and collectors both domestically and internationally. Many foreign collectors spent a considerable amount of time viewing the Vietnamese rural landscape paintings, expressing their delight with artist Quynh Thom's handling of color and her ability to convey local cultural emotions through contemporary painting.

At the exhibition, several artworks were quickly registered for ownership by collectors on the opening day. In particular, landscape paintings depicting the Northern Vietnamese countryside, old rooftops, embankments, lotus ponds, or small roads in the afternoon light received significant attention from international visitors.
This is a positive sign, demonstrating the appeal of works rich in national cultural identity in contemporary art. It also reflects the creative journey of artist Quynh Thom, where the language of painting imbued with the spirit of her homeland can create empathy that transcends differences in space and culture.
