The model of growing luffa for fiber was implemented by the Thanh Chuong District Farmers' Association in collaboration with enterprises. The communes implementing the model include Thanh Tien, Thanh Hoa, Thanh Chi and Thanh Khe with dozens of households participating.

In Thanh Tien commune, there are 4 households participating in the model of growing luffa for fiber. The households participating in the model have their products purchased by the enterprise. At the same time, the enterprise also provides technical support to the people from the time of land preparation to harvest.
Pham Thi Hanh in Thanh Tien commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province said: "After completing the trellis and planting the seeds, it takes about 3 months for the squash plant to yield fruit.
Young squash can be harvested to sell as food. When the fruit is ripe, it can be sold for fiber. The company will buy all the products, so people are very excited.

In the early stages, people can intercrop other vegetables in the model of growing squash for fiber to increase the value on the same area of cultivated land. At the same time, people intercropping vegetables also helps limit the growth of weeds.

In the early stages, people can harvest young luffa fruits to sell as food. In addition, it is also to ensure the density of fruits on the trellis so that the plant has enough nutrients to nourish the fruit. After 5 months from planting, the luffa fruit will mature and yield fiber. The time to harvest luffa fiber lasts from 3 to 4 months.
Loofahs are used to produce household products such as: bath sponges, pot scrubbers, dishwashing sponges, shoe insoles, and handbags.
The products will be exported to the markets of Korea, Japan, the US, etc. All qualified loofah fibers will be purchased by the company at the initial committed price. According to initial estimates, the average model of growing loofah for fiber will bring in an income of 140 to 160 million VND/ha.
Mr. Duong Duc Thang - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Thanh Tien Commune, Thanh Chuong District, Nghe An Province said: "The loofah variety grown for fiber produces large, long fruits. White loofah fiber meets the company's requirements.
Luffa is also very suitable for local soil and climate conditions. The Commune Farmers' Association will organize a final evaluation of the model, comparing its effectiveness with other crops. From there, the unit will encourage people to expand the model, improving economic efficiency.

In Thanh Hoa commune, Thanh Chuong district, Nghe An province, there are 7 households participating in the model of growing luffa for fiber with an area of 0.35 ha. The whole commune has harvested 35,000 luffa fibers that meet the standards. In addition, people harvested young luffa fruits and sold them for about 20 million VND.
