Nhờ áp dụng khoa học - kỹ thuật, anh Lê Thanh Phong trồng rau má đạt năng suất cao, mang lại nguồn thu nhập ổn định cho gia đình

Thanks to the application of science and technology, Mr. Le Thanh Phong grows pennywort with high productivity, bringing a stable income for his family.

Realizing that pennywort is easy to grow, has high yield, stable price and is popular in the market, 10 years ago, Mr. Phong planted 0.5ha on a trial basis. Thanks to his acumen, quick learning ability and support from predecessors, Mr. Phong grew pennywort with high yield. From there, he expanded the area and implemented the model of growing pennywort on rice and lemon land.

Mr. Phong confided: In the first year, he planted 10,000m2 and invested nearly 250 million VND to plow, make beds, sow seeds, and install an automatic irrigation system. In the second year, he gradually expanded to 15,000m2 . Currently, he grows 20,000m2 of pennywort. With the motto "For community health", he always focuses on quality and food safety in the process of growing pennywort.

For pennywort to grow well, Mr. Phong carefully invests in each step such as preparing the soil, making beds, sowing seeds, watering, fertilizing, spraying, transporting and harvesting. Pennywort is susceptible to some common diseases such as root rot, planthoppers, yellow spots, rust, leaf burn, etc. Therefore, in each crop, he disinfects, prevents diseases and intercrops 2 vegetable crops, 1 rice crop (rice is grown to get roots to improve the soil). The planting time is 3.5 months/crop. He is self-sufficient in seeds so he can be proactive from planting to harvesting. Thanks to the gradual application of technology to pennywort growing, water is saved and labor costs are reduced compared to traditional production.

With an average yield of 8 tons/ 10,000m2 /crop, selling at a price of 10,000 - 30,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, he has an income of 80-100 million VND/ 10,000m2 /crop. His model also contributes to creating jobs for local workers.

Mr. Le Thanh Phong's model of growing pennywort on rice and lemon land creates jobs for local people.

In the past time, he guided the technical process, provided seeds and linked output contracts, supported many union members, youths and local people to convert crops from rice and lemon with low efficiency to pennywort with higher efficiency.

Currently, Mr. Phong is collaborating with traders to purchase directly from the garden and distribute to agricultural wholesale markets. He plans to grow according to VietGAP standards and expand his links with pharmaceutical and cosmetic purchasing and manufacturing companies to create a stable outlet for pennywort; at the same time, he is setting up a website and social media channels to make it easier for customers to access the products.

“I am implementing the model in a private form. I am currently planning to implement the model in a community-oriented way, expanding the connection between businesses, local people and other communes in the district. In addition, I aim to build a tourist destination for visitors to visit, take photos, experience the fresh, quiet space, close to nature, and relax on weekends” - Mr. Phong shared./.
