The opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games took place on the evening of May 5, 2023, at the Morodok Techo Stadium on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The opening ceremony of the 32nd SEA Games on the evening of May 5th was highly praised for its elaborate design, comparable to the Asian Games , with a duration of 150 minutes. The organizers even aimed for an opening ceremony of Olympic caliber, while the closing ceremony was not expected to receive as much attention. However, security will be tighter during the closing ceremony, for example, children under 10 years old will not be allowed into the stadium.

The official competition days of the 32nd SEA Games took place from May 6th to May 16th, but some events started as early as April 29th due to the packed schedule. After the Games, the Secretary General of the Cambodian Olympic Committee, Vath Chamroeun, pointed out the successes such as the host country's historic fourth-place finish overall, the large number of media reporters covering the event, the host country providing free accommodation and meals for the delegations, and the host country's female track and field athlete, Bou Samang, not giving up when she finished the race in heavy rain.

The 33rd SEA Games will take place in Thailand in December 2025.
