The goal of Vietnamese Sports at this Congress is to be in the top of the delegation, winning 80-100 gold medals.

In particular, the Sports sector expects to win the first place in the region in some events such as: Athletics, Karate, Wrestling and improve rankings in key events such as Boxing, Cycling, Swimming, Shooting and Fencing.

Create the best conditions for athletes

The 33rd SEA Games in Thailand is the event that the sports industry places the greatest emphasis on, where Vietnamese Sports places high expectations to affirm its position and continue to maintain the successes it has achieved.

It is easy to see that Vietnamese Sports will face many difficulties at the 33rd SEA Games, especially when the Games are held at the home ground of Thailand - the biggest competitor in the region.

Along with that, other countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines are also strong competitors, with thorough investments in facilities, nutrition and training conditions.

Many of Vietnam's strong sports are not included in the official competition program of this year's Games, such as Vovinam and Sports Dance. In addition, many events such as Judo, Shooting, Boxing, Wushu, Taekwondo, Aerobics, Billiards, Muay, Pencak Silat... have also been cut or limited in the number of athletes participating.

This is also the biggest challenge for Vietnamese Sports, because this will cause significant difficulty in achieving the set medal target.

Faced with these difficulties, the Vietnam Sports Administration (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism ) has proactively assessed the situation and has appropriate plans, such as: Focusing on investing in highly competitive sports and sending excellent athletes to train and compete internationally to gain experience and improve their skills.

Along with that, the Vietnam Sports Department also received attention from the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Chairman of the Vietnam Olympic Committee Nguyen Van Hung when directing the sports industry to aim for a long-term strategy, choosing sports that have the potential to compete for medals at the continental and Olympic levels.

Minister Nguyen Van Hung requested that subjects with the potential to create breakthroughs need to be identified early and invested in properly, while at the same time discovering and nurturing promising young talents.

In addition, special attention is paid to the management, care and creation of competition conditions, as well as ensuring the diet, nutrition and training conditions for athletes.

Head of the High Performance Sports Department, Vietnam Sports Administration Hoang Quoc Vinh said: Currently, all sports (from key sports to sports in the top competition system) have been, are and continue to complete competition and training plans, in order to prepare the best athletes for international sporting events, the most important of which are the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand at the end of 2025 and the 2026 ASIAD in Japan.

Prepare well in advance

To prepare for the 33rd SEA Games, right after the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, the Vietnam Sports Administration directed the review and assessment of the force and carefully prepared professional conditions.

It is expected that the Vietnamese Sports Delegation attending the 33rd SEA Games will have more than 1,000 members, including athletes, coaches, experts, officials and doctors, competing in 45/66 sports and sub-sports.

Of these, 40 sports are paid for from the state budget and 5 sports are funded by social sources (Billiards, Figure Skating, E-Sports, Baseball and Softball, Mixed Martial Arts).

To optimize training, thereby aiming for the highest goal at the Games, the competitions have been divided into three main groups, including: Group 1 is the traditional strong sports and the spearheads competing for Gold medals such as: Athletics, Football, Swimming, Shooting, Wrestling, Taekwondo, Karate, Weightlifting, Fencing, Canoeing and Traditional Rowing, Gymnastics, Boxing, Judo, Jujitsu, Petanque, Wushu, Muay, Rowing, Cycling, Chess, Archery, Pencak Silat, Table Tennis, Aerobics, Mixed Sports, Indoor Volleyball, Golf, Handball, 3x3 Basketball, Sepak Takraw.

Group 2 includes sports with the potential to win medals such as: Tennis, Basketball 5x5, Diving, Artistic Gymnastics, Badminton, Beach Volleyball, Sailing, Bowling, Roller. Group 3 includes socialized sports: Billiards, Figure Skating, E-Sports, Baseball and Softball, Mixed Martial Arts.

Along with grouping, training to improve athletes' skills is promoted both domestically and internationally. Key sports teams receive strong investment in expertise, logistics, nutrition, training equipment, medical care and injury recovery. This creates an exciting atmosphere and reduces performance pressure for the teams.

The 33rd SEA Games in Thailand is not only a regional sporting event, but also an important milestone for Vietnamese Sports to affirm its position and continue the successes that have been achieved. As the host of the 31st SEA Games and the overall winner of the 32nd SEA Games, the pressure and expectations placed on the Vietnamese Sports Delegation are not small. In addition, there are many difficulties both objectively and subjectively.

However, with continuous efforts, careful, synchronous and systematic investment, Vietnamese Sports will enter the largest regional Games with confidence and the desire to win.

This is not only an opportunity to bring home medals but also to continue affirming the position of domestic sports in the regional arena./.
