These days, people in the studious countryside of Ha Tinh have continuously received good news. Right after the excellent results of the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, information about the International Math Olympiad has made many hearts in the hometown burst with pride and emotion. The journey to the prestigious gold medal of Tran Minh Hoang (grade 12 Math 1, Ha Tinh Specialized High School) is not only a series of proud achievements from the exams to advance to the next level, national valedictorian, international silver medal but also demonstrates the extraordinary efforts, will, and desire to conquer knowledge of Ha Tinh students.
Born in Tien Dien commune, Tran Minh Hoang grew up in a family where both parents are teachers. Ms. Tran Thi Thu Hoa - Minh Hoang's mother said: "Even before entering first grade, Hoang had the ability to read and calculate simple calculations. Hoang's love of Mathematics was inspired and nurtured every day by his parents and teachers in his hometown".

For Hoang, studying Math not only gives him knowledge but also helps him practice logical thinking and supports his studies in other subjects. His talent, passion for Math and his efforts to explore, discover and conquer the subject have helped Hoang win many impressive awards before winning the International Math Olympiad Gold Medal. He is also known as a "high-level exam specialist".
In grade 8, Hoang won first prize in the Provincial Math Competition for Grade 9 students. In grade 9, he rose to the top of the class. He also won many awards at international math competitions such as: Gold medal in the English Math Olympiad (SEAMO) in 2019; Silver medal in the Singapore Math Olympiad (SMO) in 2019; Gold medal in the Singapore and Asian Math Olympiad (SASMO) in 2019; Special prize in the Young Math Talent Search (MYTS) in 2019; Gold medal in the Iran Geometry Olympiad for Intermediate level in 2022...
In the 2022-2023 school year, right after becoming a student at Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, although he was only a 10th grader, Hoang took the exam to advance to a higher level and won first prize in the National Excellent Student Competition. In the 11th grade, Hoang won a silver medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Not stopping there, with a progressive spirit, perseverance, and a special love for Mathematics, the student from Ha Tinh quietly broke through, and then this year, in his last return to IMO, Hoang made his dream of changing the color of his medal come true.

Mr. Tran Dinh Huu - homeroom teacher of Math 1 class 12, who has been with Hoang for 3 years at Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted, shared: “This exam is very stressful for Hoang, because he sets a goal to surpass himself with the desire to change the color of the medal. Accompanying him during the days of focused review in Hanoi, I know that the journey to achieve his goal of winning a gold medal is not easy. Behind the halo are months of hard study, sleepless nights with hundreds of difficult math problems, times of fatigue to the point of thinking he could not continue, but he never stopped. Hoang is diligent, hard-working, has a strong learning ability and very deep thinking, he has the ability to stay calm very well, that is the most important thing in stressful international exams”.

With intelligence, courage and perseverance, Hoang has surpassed himself, overcome the shadow of the silver medal in 2024 to reach the dream he once cherished - the prestigious gold medal. He is also the first student from Ha Tinh to win 2 consecutive medals in Mathematics in 2 international Olympics.
Mr. Hoang Ba Hung - Principal of Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted said: "Accompanying Hoang and the teachers and the Math team during the competition days in Australia, I admire the will and determination of the students in the team even more. As for Minh Hoang, because he had experience from the previous competition, he entered the competition proactively and had a stable competition strategy. Although there is still some regret, with a score of 35, Hoang's efforts have been duly recognized."

Minh Hoang's story is not only the pride of his family, teachers, friends and hometown Ha Tinh but also a source of inspiration for future generations of students.
Nguyen Tien My (grade 11 Math 1, Ha Tinh High School for the Gifted) shared: “During the time participating in the national excellent student team of grade 10, Mr. Hoang encouraged and shared his experiences and learning methods with me and my friends. That helped me gain more knowledge and understanding. That is also a valuable asset in the process of achieving my goals. Mr. Hoang's journey to the gold medal has inspired us and I know that whether in study or life, as long as there is aspiration, perseverance and will, there is no limit that cannot be overcome.”
After days of studying hard, under pressure and stress, Hoang returned to the welcoming arms, love and pride of his family, teachers, friends and hometown. Minh Hoang shared: “This proud result is not only my knowledge and efforts, but also the attention of the province, the education sector, the support of teachers, family and friends so that I can continue to try. I hope to continue to study Mathematics in depth in the future.”
Ha Tinh – the studious homeland once again affirms its position on the international knowledge map. And the story of Minh Hoang’s brilliant gold medal is not only an achievement but also a symbol of the will to rise up and the desire to conquer knowledge of generations of Ha Tinh students today.
