At the downstream slope of Con Tre dike (in Tan Long residential group), heavy rain caused a part of the dike with an area of about 90 square meters to collapse, causing the risk of flooding to the neighboring residential area.
Immediately after discovering the incident, Vung Ang ward mobilized more than 100 officers, soldiers, militia and self-defense forces... to transport sand and rock bags to temporarily reinforce the embankment and clear the flow to limit the spread of landslides. According to local authorities, if the Con Tre dike is not reinforced, protected, and raised in time, it will break, threatening the safety of thousands of households living along the dike.
Mr. Nguyen The Anh - Chairman of Vung Ang Ward People's Committee said: " We have deployed the '4 on-site' motto, mobilizing all forces and means to urgently handle the landslide. The top priority is to ensure absolute safety for people in the area around Con Tre dike. It is expected that the work of reinforcing, rebuilding the slope and clearing rocks and soil will be completed early this afternoon. The ward will continue to send forces on duty, closely monitor the flood situation to promptly respond... ". The forces used bamboo trunks as umbrellas to block the sandbags.
Despite carrying out tasks in harsh weather conditions, heavy rain and strong winds, officers and soldiers still made every effort to complete the task. Sandbags are stacked higher than the dike surface for safety.
Along with reinforcing the dike, the forces are also supporting Vung Ang ward to evacuate 186 households/484 people in 5 residential groups with low-lying, dangerous terrain to safe areas.
