To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Indochina College of Fine Arts (1925-2025), the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum has launched a special thematic exhibition space, honoring the representative authors and works of Vietnamese fine arts.

This also marks the first time the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum has launched a special exhibition dedicated to the painter and martyr To Ngoc Van - one of the most prominent painters of modern and revolutionary Vietnamese art.
At the exhibition, the public has access to a focused and comprehensive understanding of the life and career of the renowned painter To Ngoc Van, witnessing the artist's journey from "art for art's sake" to "art for humanity's sake".
This exhibition features a selection of 26 works in various mediums including oil paint, lacquer, silk, watercolor, pencil, and ink. In addition, the exhibition space showcases several valuable mementos preserved by the artist's family, contributing to a vivid portrayal of the artist-soldier To Ngoc Van.

Through its collection of works, the exhibition clarifies the profound transformation in To Ngoc Van's thought and artistic style, reflecting the artist's increasingly deep connection with social life and the nation's destiny.
Painter To Ngoc Van (1906-1954) was not only a founder of revolutionary Vietnamese art but also an important bridge between two stages of development of the country's art scene, from the Indochina College of Fine Arts to the Vietnam School of Fine Arts (now the Vietnam University of Fine Arts).
He was also the first principal of the Vietnam Fine Arts School during the resistance war, making significant contributions to the training and development of artists for the revolutionary art movement.
The life of painter To Ngoc Van is a symbol of an artist deeply connected to the destiny of the nation. He bravely sacrificed his life in the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954 while directly on the front lines, taking notes and sketching.

The final works of painter To Ngoc Van not only possess exceptional artistic value but also serve as invaluable historical documents, authentically capturing the spirit of Vietnam during the glorious years of resistance. He fulfilled his historical mission: transforming painting into the voice of the Vietnamese nation on its path to independence and the affirmation of its identity.
This thematic exhibition is being held with the support of the family of painter To Ngoc Van and the sponsorship of Millon Vietnam. The event will open at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum tomorrow morning, December 18, 2025.
