From June 1st, paper health insurance cards will stop being issued: What should people do to ensure their rights to health insurance examination and treatment?

Specifically, from June 1, for cases of requesting to reissue or exchange health insurance cards, social insurance officers are required to directly guide participants to install the VssID application, the VNeID application and instruct them to use the health insurance card image on the applications to go to the hospital for examination and treatment instead of the paper health insurance card.

To ensure benefits and avoid interruptions in the medical examination and treatment process, people need to take the following steps: Install the VssID or VNeID application on their smartphones to be able to use the electronic health insurance card image instead of the paper card. Link health insurance information with the Citizen Identification Card (CCCD) with chip to ensure data synchronization.

People go to see a doctor or get health insurance treatment using a chip-embedded ID card

According to Vietnam Social Security, from June 1, 2025, the Social Security agency will only issue paper health insurance cards for cases where VssID, VneID cannot be installed and there is no CCCD with chip.

This regulation is part of the digital transformation program of Vietnam Social Security, implementing the directions of the Government and the Prime Minister on cutting administrative procedures, aiming to modernize the process and bring many practical benefits to health insurance participants.

To use the VNeID or VssID application instead of a paper health insurance card, people can integrate their health insurance card into these applications by following these simple steps: Integrate health insurance card into VNeID: First, people need to update the latest version of the VNeID application. Then, open the application and log in, select the Paper Wallet section, then select Integrate information. Next, select Create new request and enter the health insurance card number and information of the card issuing unit to complete the integration.

Regarding the VssID application, currently, most accounts have been authenticated with population data and updated CCCD numbers. For accounts that have not been updated, users can follow these steps to update the CCCD number or personal identification number for social insurance and health insurance participants in the VssID application.

To check the updated CCCD number on the VssID application: Open the VssID application on your phone - Log in to your account. If the account already displays the CCCD number, there is no need to update. If the old ID number is still there, you need to change the information, then follow these steps:

Step 1: Access the address: https://dichvucong.baohiemxahoi.gov.vn - Log in with your VssID account.

Step 2: When you have successfully logged in, look up and select Account Information to change your ID number/CCCD.

Step 3: In the information management section, you can easily edit your ID card/CCCD number.

Step 4: Confirm at the Social Security Agency. After completing the online information change, the user will receive a notification requesting to go to the nearest Social Security Agency to confirm and complete the information change on the Social Security system.

If people have difficulty installing, contact the local Social Security agency for support in installing the application if it is not possible or if there is no chip-embedded ID card. Social Security officers are responsible for guiding participants to install and use the image of the health insurance card on the VssID and VNeID applications; use the chip-embedded ID card to go to the doctor or get medical treatment instead of the paper health insurance card./.
