Automation of mechanical production lines in TKV

Previously, mechanical production in the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) relied heavily on the skills of craftsmen, leading to uneven productivity and product quality, high production costs, and difficulty in ensuring progress for large orders or complex technical requirements. Now, automation in the Group's mechanical production has solved most of these problems. Recorded at Vinacomin Automobile Industry Joint Stock Company (VMIC).

In mechanical manufacturing, metal structure welding is always considered a key step, requiring high technology, precision and stability. Investing in structural welding robots is part of the Company's overall automation roadmap. Up to now, VMIC is using 4 structural welding robots for production, including 1 new generation robot with many outstanding features.

According to Mr. Hoang Trong Cuong, Head of VMIC Technical Department, the new generation of structural welding robots was put into use by the company 2 months ago but has quickly proven its effectiveness. It has good working efficiency, is capable of working continuously in many shifts and repeating welds at high speed and with higher precision than human workers. The operation of structural welding robots also produces products with consistent quality, minimizing errors and waste.

Vinacomin Automobile Industry Joint Stock Company has just put into use a new generation of structural welding robots.

Applying industrial robot systems and automated production lines also helps businesses closely control the processing, assembly, and structural welding stages, thereby improving accuracy, reducing product errors, and shortening production time and saving materials. This is an important condition for the Company to meet large orders from the Vietnam National Coal and Mineral Industries Group, partners outside the Group, and serve exports.

Mr. Nguyen Huy Tam, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Vinacomin Automobile Industry Joint Stock Company, said: Not stopping at the welding stage, VMIC is gradually automating other precision mechanical processing stages such as: Turning, milling, cutting, assembling... through investing in CNC machines, automatic conveyor systems, digital programming of production processes, moving towards real-time quality control. This is considered an important step, helping businesses expand production capacity and contributing to realizing the goal of bringing the proportion of revenue from manufacturing equipment and spare parts to 70% by 2030.

In addition to focusing on equipment procurement, the Company also focuses on developing internal capacity by training a team of engineers to master automation technology, programming, operating robotic systems and smart devices. This is a key factor that helps VMIC not to depend on imported technology, gradually mastering the "game" in the modern mechanical industry playground.

Thanks to the application of automation devices, mechanics have improved working conditions.

VMIC has also been building a cooperation strategy with technology companies, universities, and research institutes to update advanced automation technologies, and develop high-tech mechanical products to serve domestic needs and export. "Recently, the Company has successfully manufactured a coal pouring machine to serve production at Km6 port of Cam Pha Port and Logistics Company. This is a new product, the first time a mechanical unit of TKV has successfully manufactured domestically" - Mr. Hoang Trong Cuong, Head of the Company's Technical Department added.

Vietnam’s mechanical industry is facing major challenges when competing with foreign enterprises right at home. However, with the strength of being proactive and having lower prices than imported equipment, TKV’s mechanical products are increasingly dominating the market inside and outside the coal and mineral industry.

Therefore, TKV's mechanical enterprises also determined that production automation is not a choice, but an inevitable trend to improve competitiveness and participate more deeply in the global supply chain. Production automation also creates a breakthrough in labor productivity, helping enterprises overcome the problem of shortage of highly skilled labor.

With a vision to 2030, TKV aims to build a model of smart mechanical factories, deeply integrating digitalization, automation and real-time production management factors. Robot systems, CNC machines, and automatic assembly lines will be connected to production management software and enterprise resource planning systems, helping to optimize the entire production cycle from design, processing to delivery.

Automation not only helps businesses grow in scale, but also improves quality, affirming the position of Vietnamese mechanical enterprises as masters of technology, gradually reaching out to the international market.
