Young professor wants to spread kindness and goodness

Professor Truc Dao is a former student of Tay Son High School, then a student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics, Quy Nhon University (formerly Binh Dinh province, now Gia Lai province).

Exactly 10 years ago, he graduated as valedictorian from Quy Nhon University. After that, thanks to the guidance of professors, he applied and was awarded master and doctoral scholarships by 8 top universities in France and 1 university in the US, including universities such as: Paris-Saclay, Lyon, Toulouse, Nantes...

Professor Truc Dao said he chose to study for a PhD in the US in 2016 and completed the program in 2021. After that, he took on the position of Professor Level 1 under contract at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, USA), the first level in the three-level professor system in the US. At the same time, he is a researcher on how to optimize radiation therapy time for brain tumors at Beaumont Hospital (Michigan, USA)...

In 2023, thanks to recommendations from his advisors and colleagues, he was awarded a tenure-track tenure-track Professorship at San Diego State University, where he currently works. In addition to working at San Diego State University, he is also a visiting professor at the University of California San Diego and a co-supervisor of a doctoral student at the University of California Irvine.

He also has many research results presented in many countries such as: Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Russia, Australia...

According to Professor Truc Dao, what she received, besides her own efforts, was also the help and experience sharing of many seniors and the recommendation letters and dedicated guidance of her professors.

"That's why, over the past 9 years, despite being busy with work, I still try to help Vietnamese students study abroad through different types of scholarships, because I myself have received a lot of help from the community. I want to spread kindness and goodness to others, contributing to the culture of helping each other in the Vietnamese community," he shared.

The professor born in 1993 added: "Looking back on the past, I am truly grateful to my family, friends, teachers, those who have always loved, supported and encouraged me. I truly appreciate everyone's help, thank you for always being there to support and trust me. Without everyone's companionship, I really wouldn't have been able to have today. Therefore, in my heart, I always remember and am grateful to everyone. And it is the motivation for my desire to help more and more Vietnamese students study abroad."

To have more chances of success when studying abroad

Professor Truc Dao said that she has guided and introduced dozens of students to apply for undergraduate and graduate scholarships.

"Among them, some have won scholarships to the mathematics department of the University of California, Los Angeles. Some have received scholarships from Columbia University, and some have been accepted into the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of New York University... I feel very happy and proud when the students that I have guided, helped, and written letters of recommendation for... are accepted into the schools they desire. They have really tried their best and completely deserve that success. I am even happier knowing that I can contribute a small part to their journey," he said.

According to this young professor, currently there are many students, bachelors, masters, doctors and post-docs contacting him to ask for help in preparing documents to hunt for scholarships to study abroad, applying for jobs, applying for green cards for talented people, doing research together, asking for recommendation letters to hunt for scholarships...

Sharing more with young people in Vietnam who plan to study abroad, this first-level professor at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, San Diego State University said: "For each level of study, there will be different types of documents and records that need to be prepared. However, in general, you should update your CV (resume) regularly. You need to prepare well your essays and recommendation letters. Study and review for exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, GMAT, GRE. Be proactive in studying and actively contact teachers to participate in research. You should learn carefully about your favorite majors, schools, as well as career opportunities after graduation... Careful and proactive preparation from an early age will help you be more confident and have more opportunities for success when studying abroad."
