The Departmentof Education and Training of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province has just sent a document to universities, colleges and intermediate schools in the area, requesting them to strengthen warnings, propaganda and coordination to prevent violations.
According to the document, recently, many sophisticated scams have appeared nationwide targeting students through student exchange programs, international summer camps, and study abroad scholarships.
Scholarship and student exchange scam warning
Fraudsters often impersonate educational institutions, government agencies or set up fake websites and social media accounts to invite participants. They then ask for personal information, submit applications and pay fees, thereby appropriating assets and stealing personal data.
Notably, there have been cases of citizens being tricked into paying hundreds of millions of dong in fees to participate in bogus study abroad scholarship programs.
To protect the legitimate rights of learners, the Department of Education and Training recommends that schools proactively implement a number of propaganda and warning measures through the school's official information channels.
Students are advised to only learn about scholarship and international exchange programs through reliable sources such as the official website of the Ministry of Education and Training , diplomatic agencies, reputable and verified organizations.
In addition, units need to strengthen the review, detection and timely handling of acts of forging documents and announcements of the school. In case of detecting signs of fraud, it is necessary to immediately coordinate with the police to verify and handle according to the provisions of law.
