Quang Tri: Memorial service and burial of 8 heroic martyrs at Tam Co cave

On November 8, at the Eight Volunteers Cave (also known as the Eight Ladies Cave, Road 20 Quyet Thang, Thuong Trach Commune), the Provincial Party Committee - People's Council - People's Committee - Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Tri province solemnly held a ceremony to pay respect, pay tribute and bury the remains of eight heroic martyrs who died in 1972.

Attending the ceremony were comrades: Nguyen Van Phuong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Tran Vu Khiem, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Tran Phong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; together with leaders of the People's Council, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Tri province; representatives of the leaders of the Da Nang City Party Committee, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Steering Committee 515 and relatives of heroic martyrs.

According to the family's wishes, the martyrs were buried in a common grave.

During the process of renovating the grounds of the Eight Volunteers Cave, from October 1 to 15, 2025, Collection Team 589, Quang Tri Provincial Military Command discovered and collected martyrs' remains at the old cave entrance.

Thanks to DNA testing supported by Gene Story Joint Stock Company, up to now, 8 DNA samples have matched the samples of 8 martyrs' relatives. According to the family's wishes, the remains were buried in the same grave at the entrance of the cave, the place that marked their heroic sacrifice in the rain of bombs and bullets in 1972.

The ceremony took place solemnly.

Reading the speech, Vice Chairman of Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien, Head of Steering Committee 515, was moved: "More than half a century has passed, the sacrifice of you is a heroic and tragic song, a sacred testament to the truth 'Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom'. Today's return is not only the body, but also the soul, memories and pride of the nation".

Hang Tam Co, where eight young volunteers in their twenties fell to maintain the traffic flow to support the South, has become a red address of gratitude, an immortal symbol of Vietnamese revolutionary heroism.

In a solemn atmosphere, delegates, relatives of martyrs and comrades offered incense and flowers, performed funeral rites, expressing the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", deeply expressing gratitude to those who sacrificed their youth and flesh for the independence, freedom and unification of the country.
