On September 19, Quang Tri province held an inauguration ceremony for the restoration of the memorial site where 16 youth volunteers from Thai Binh (now Hung Yen) died at Long Dai ferry, Truong Ninh commune.
These youth volunteers were from the same hometown Thai Binh, now in Hung Yen province.
The memorial site where 16 young volunteers died at Long Dai Ferry Terminal stands out with a newly built memorial, designed to resemble a sheaf of rice consisting of 16 ears, 16 meters high, creating a sacred symbol in memory of the 16 young volunteers who heroically sacrificed their lives.
In addition, the space for displaying documents and artifacts is equipped with modern technological equipment such as: visual simulation sand table system, documentary projector and especially relic information lookup kiosk... helping visitors easily access information in a vivid, accurate and attractive way.

Long Dai ferry terminal during the years of resistance against the US to save the country was a fierce focal point, connecting the great rear base of the North with the battlefield of the South. The enemy dropped hundreds of tons of bombs and bullets here to cut off the vital traffic artery. In the face of the rain of bombs and bullets, the youth volunteers still steadfastly held their ground, rescuing people and goods, and maintaining the supply line.
The most tragic was the heroic sacrifice of 16 officers and youth volunteers of Company C130 (from Thai Binh, now Hung Yen province) in September 1972. During the fierce bombings on September 19 and 23, 1972, 16 soldiers (including 7 women and 9 men) fell while on duty transporting and clearing the way to maintain the bloodline of support for the battlefield.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Mr. Hoang Nam, Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, said that Long Dai ferry will not only be a place to pay tribute to the sacred values of the past, but also a "red address" to educate revolutionary traditions for today's and tomorrow's young generations.
"This place will blend into the sacred space of Quang Tri Citadel, Truong Son Martyrs' Cemetery, the two banks of Hien Luong - Ben Hai..., becoming a part of the cultural - historical and spiritual tourism route, so that Quang Tri will forever be remembered as the land of heroic memories, aspirations for peace and revival," said Mr. Nam.
Previously, Quang Tri province held a ceremony to announce the decision and receive the certificate of ranking the Long Dai Ferry Pier II as a national relic.
