On the evening of November 3, Mr. Hoang Manh Ha, Chairman of the People's Committee of Truong Son Commune, Quang Tri Province, confirmed that he had just notified the road management unit about a large crack along the West branch of Ho Chi Minh Highway passing through this commune.
"We have placed warning signs at both ends to let people know and limit their movement," said Mr. Ha.
The crack was discovered on the Ho Chi Minh road through Da Chat village. This area has been continuously experiencing heavy rain for many days. Through observation, the length of the crack is about 40m, the depth of the crack is 22cm, the widest gap is 15cm.
The crack ran along the curb and cut through the concrete in the middle of the road.
According to Mr. Ha, a few years ago during the rainy season, a crack appeared on the hill near this road. The road management agency at that time went to survey and assess the extent.
"It is likely that this new crack is related to the geological displacement from the previous crack. We will report to the authorities for specific assessment," said Mr. Ha.
Currently, the weather in the Truong Son region continues to have heavy rain. There is a possibility of flooding many residential areas.
