The 2025 Chess World Cup will be played in a knockout format with 2 standard games. If the score is tied, a rapid game will be played. If the score is still tied, a blitz game will be played to determine the winner. The total prize money for the tournament is up to 2 million USD (about 52 billion VND), of which the champion will receive 120,000 USD (more than 3 billion VND). Any player eliminated after the first round will also receive 3,500 USD (about 90 million VND). 15-year-old player Bang Gia Huy (elo 2,440) lost in the first round to Dardha (Belgium, elo 2,605) and stopped after 2 standard games.

Meanwhile, with elo 2,729, Vietnam's No. 1 player Le Quang Liem was selected as the 13th seed and was exempted from the first round. In the second round taking place from 4:30 p.m. today, Le Quang Liem will face Baadur Jobava (Georgia, elo 2,573). In the first round, Baadur Jobava defeated Jose Gabriel Cardoso (Colombia, elo 2,518). Baadur Jobava is 42 years old this year with many years of experience in international competitions and has also achieved some success, promising to create a mind-boggling battle with Le Quang Liem.
Le Quang Liem is the number 1 chess player in Vietnam for a long time, and is the idol of many young chess players.

In terms of reputation and international achievements, Le Quang Liem is more prominent than Baadur Jobava, having won the World Blitz Chess Championship in 2013 and many international open tournaments. Le Quang Liem, 34 years old, is currently the head coach of the Webster University chess team (USA) and the director of the SPICE chess academy. Although busy, he still spends considerable time practicing chess and playing for the Vietnamese chess team in important international tournaments such as the SEA Games, ASIAD, Olympiad, and World Cup. Vietnam's No. 1 chess player has participated in the World Chess Cup many times with the best achievement being reaching the 4th round twice (2013, 2019).
