Proactively source goods to coordinate in all situations

Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the People's Committee of Gia Lai province on ensuring the supply of essential goods to serve people in the face of storm No. 13, this morning (November 5), the Department of Industry and Trade organized inspection teams at key units, distributors and large retail systems in the province such as: Co.opmart Quy Nhon Supermarket, MM Mega Market Quy Nhon, Go Supermarket...; and major distributors in Quy Nhon such as Anh Nhat, Thien Phuc...

The inspection results showed that all units had adequate stock of goods.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kha - Deputy Director of Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade - said: "After inspection, these units have proactively stocked up on large quantities of essential goods, ready to supply the market. In the past 2 days, the number of people shopping at supermarkets has increased 4-5 times, even 10 times in some places compared to normal days. Although there were times when some items were temporarily empty on the shelves, the Department of Industry and Trade promptly directed the replenishment of goods, ensuring that there was no shortage.

Supermarkets and distribution units have also planned to receive additional reserves to fully meet people's consumption needs during the rainy and stormy days. At the same time, the Department of Industry and Trade has inspected and recorded that major petroleum distributors and key enterprises in the area have proactively reserved petroleum sources, ensuring stable business operations and serving people in all situations.

According to requirements and reasonable calculations, the amount of goods stocked at supermarkets and large distributors will ensure supply for 15 days.

In Official Dispatch No. 2074/SCT-QLTM, the Department of Industry and Trade requested enterprises producing and trading essential goods; wholesale traders, distributors and retail agents of petroleum in the province to proactively review and update reserves, and be ready to respond when the storm hits. Accordingly, wholesale traders and distributors of petroleum must ensure a stable supply, not allowing shortages or speculation, hoarding, or unreasonable price increases.

The Department of Industry and Trade also directed to prioritize the support of petroleum resources for telecommunications enterprises such as Viettel, VNPT, MobiFone , Gtel-Mobile, Post Office... to serve the operation of generators at BTS stations in case of power outages due to storms and floods. At the same time, strengthen inspection and ensure the safety of warehouse systems, tanks, pumps, electrical equipment, fire prevention and fighting at petrol stations.

Regarding essential goods, the Department requires businesses distributing bottled drinking water, food, processed food, and necessities to prepare sufficient reserves and be ready to supply when required; proactively plan transportation and circulation of goods in case of isolation or flooding, ensuring the supply of goods to serve people, rescue forces, and evacuation areas.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Kha, the Industry and Trade sector not only proactively reserves goods, but also focuses on ensuring the safety of the distribution system and stabilizing the market. The goal is to ensure adequate supply of essential goods at reasonable prices even in bad weather situations.

Strengthen control of prices and quality of goods

According to forecasts, from November 5 to 7, the circulation of storm No. 13 may cause very heavy rain over a wide area, especially in the eastern part of the province, with a high risk of major floods, deep and prolonged flooding in low-lying areas and residential areas along rivers and streams.

Faced with that situation, the provincial Market Management Department has issued an official dispatch requesting its affiliated Market Management teams to synchronously deploy measures to ensure market stability, prevent speculation, hoarding, and strictly handle acts of taking advantage of natural disasters for personal gain, especially closely controlling the market in areas forecast to be affected by the storm.

Currently, the sudden increase in purchasing power in the market has caused the price of goods at many retail outlets to increase many times compared to normal days, posing a risk of artificial and local scarcity if not controlled promptly.

Mr. Dinh Van Ha - Deputy Head of the Provincial Market Management Department - said: The Market Management Department has requested teams to strengthen inspection and supervision of the area, promptly detect and strictly handle cases of taking advantage of natural disasters to speculate, hoard goods, increase prices unreasonably, and make illegal profits. Resolutely handle acts of taking advantage of the situation to trade in poor quality goods, goods of unknown origin; especially for essential goods such as food, foodstuffs, consumer goods, corrugated iron, roofing sheets, construction materials, gasoline, etc.

In addition, promote propaganda and guide business organizations and individuals to comply with legal regulations, ensure smooth circulation of goods, and prevent local shortages.

Mr. Ha affirmed: The Market Management Force will arrange 100% of its personnel to be on duty during the storm to promptly inspect and handle violations, and at the same time closely coordinate with functional agencies to ensure stable circulation of goods, maintain reasonable prices and protect consumer rights during this emergency period.
