Following the official announcement of the termination of Masatada Ishii's contract on October 21st, the Football Association of Thailand (FAT) appointed Anthony Hudson (formerly FAT Technical Director) as the new head coach of the Thai national team. The announcement ceremony for the new head coach was held at FAT headquarters on the afternoon of October 23rd.

According to Thai media, FAT President Nualphan Lamsam (also known as Madam Pang) stated that the appointment of Hudson was based on the collective consideration of the technical department, aiming to ensure continuity in the Thai national team's work and prepare for important matches in November. Specifically, the "War Elephants" will play a friendly match against Singapore on November 13th, before an away match against Sri Lanka in the final qualifying round of the 2027 Asian Cup on November 18th.

"Thailand could qualify for the World Cup"

At his unveiling, Coach Hudson affirmed that his immediate goal is to lead the Thai national team to qualify for the 2027 Asian Cup finals. When asked about the World Cup, the new head coach of the "War Elephants" shared: "I believe the Thai national team has the ability to participate in the World Cup finals. However, Thai football needs to develop a generation of young players and provide them with more opportunities to play."

"My decision to take on the role of head coach of the Thai national team stems from my love for this country. I see the passion for football in all Thai people. I'm not saying this just because the press conference room is packed. My wish is to lead the team to the 2027 Asian Cup finals, and then to make the players and fans of Thailand proud," Thairath quoted Coach Hudson as saying.

What did Madam Pang say?

"At this crucial time, we need someone who understands Thai football. Anthony Hudson has worked with the FAT at every level and has extensive international experience," Madam Pang emphasized. Madam Pang affirmed that the FAT believes in Hudson's potential and is confident that the 44-year-old coach can lead the Thai national team to development, both short-term and long-term. "The Thai national team needs stability and clear direction. Anthony Hudson is the right person at this time," the FAT President shared.

Anthony Hudson (born 1981) is an American-British coach who has managed several international teams, including the USA, New Zealand, and Bahrain. He has also worked with professional clubs in England and the USA. Hudson has held the position of Technical Director of the Football Association of England (FAT) since 2024.
