On the afternoon of November 3, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc received the new Indonesian Consul General Carolina Tinangon for an introduction.
At the reception, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc highly appreciated the 70-year Vietnam - Indonesia relationship, built from the friendship between President Ho Chi Minh and President Soekarno.
He said that compared to the depth of the relationship, economic cooperation still has much untapped potential. The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee hopes that Ms. Tinangon will have many initiatives to promote practical and effective cooperation between the two sides.
Appreciating Indonesia's position, role and potential in the region, Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc expressed his hope that Indonesia would support Vietnam in developing the Halal industry and become a gateway for Vietnamese goods to penetrate the Islamic and Middle Eastern markets.
According to Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc, Ho Chi Minh City currently has many businesses operating in the food, processing and export sectors. He hopes that there will be more opportunities for businesses from both countries to meet, exchange experiences and cooperate in the processing industry.
He said that Ho Chi Minh City plans to organize a Halal goods fair in December to connect businesses in this field, and proposed to coordinate with the Indonesian Consulate General to organize the event.
In addition, he also emphasized the potential for cooperation in the wood industry, as Ho Chi Minh City's wood enterprises account for more than 10% of the country's total output, opening up great prospects for trade between the two sides.

For her part, new Consul General Carolina Tinangon thanked the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City for their warm welcome and expressed her joy at taking up her duties in the most dynamic city in Vietnam.
She affirmed that the relationship between Vietnam and Indonesia is developing very well, but there is still much potential to further promote, especially in the fields of Halal, technological transformation, socio-culture and education.
"I hope that during my term, we will have more substantive and effective cooperation initiatives between Indonesia and Ho Chi Minh City," Ms. Tinangon shared.
In addition, the new Consul General also emphasized his desire to promote student exchange programs and cultural exchanges to enhance understanding and connection between the people of the two countries.
