Typhoon Kalmaegi intensifies, causing widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain

The National Center for Hydrometeorology noted that the storm is likely to cause thunderstorms and tornadoes before the storm along with widespread heavy rain from the night of November 6 to November 9 in the provinces from Quang Tri to Dak Lak. The direct landfall area is Da Nang - Khanh Hoa.

On the evening of November 3, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that at 7 p.m. today, the center of typhoon Kalmaegi was on the eastern coastal area of ​​the central Philippines, with the strongest wind speed of 149 km/h, level 12-13, gusting to level 16, and was moving west at a speed of about 25 km/h. Thus, compared to this morning, the storm has increased by nearly two levels and increased by nearly five levels since strengthening into a storm yesterday morning.

Forecast by 7pm on November 4, the storm center is in the central Philippines, the strongest wind is level 13, gusting up three levels and heading west at a speed of 25 km/h. The storm entered the East Sea around the morning of October 5, by 7pm it was in the middle of the East Sea, about 800 km off the coast of Gia Lai province and tilted west-northwest at a speed of 20-25 km/h.

Typhoon Kalmaegi is forecast to be a strong storm, increasing in strength as it approaches the East Sea.

Notably, the storm grew stronger as it moved into the Central region. At 7 p.m. on October 6, when it was in the Quang Ngai - Dak Lak sea area, about 200 km from the coast of Gia Lai province, the storm reached its maximum level 14, gusting to level 17, maintaining its direction and speed increasing to 25 km/h.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the storm is currently at 126 km/h and will maintain this intensity as it passes through the central Philippines. When it enters the East Sea, the wind speed will increase to 144 km/h. The Hong Kong station assessed it to be stronger, possibly reaching 165 km/h when it enters the Quang Ngai - Dak Lak sea area.

Due to the influence of the storm, from around the afternoon of November 4, the eastern sea area of ​​the central East Sea will have winds gradually increasing from level 6 to 13; the area near the storm center will have winds of level 11-13, gusting to level 15-16, with waves 5-7 m high.

During November 5-6, in the middle of the East Sea (including Truong Sa special zone), the sea area off the coast of Da Nang - Khanh Hoa is likely to be affected by strong winds of level 12-14, gusting to level 17, and waves of 8-10 m high. All ships and structures operating in the above-mentioned dangerous area will be severely affected.

The Department of Hydrometeorology (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) said that storm Kalmaegil is moving quickly. As soon as it enters the East Sea, the meteorological agency will issue an emergency storm bulletin every three hours and a quick bulletin every hour.

The agency noted that the storm is likely to cause thunderstorms and tornadoes before the storm, along with widespread heavy rain from the night of November 6 to November 9 in the provinces from Quang Tri to Dak Lak. The direct landfall area is Da Nang - Khanh Hoa. There is a risk of new flooding on rivers from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa provinces.

Observation and forecast data up to now show that this storm still has a certain degree of uncertainty in terms of trajectory, intensity, direction of movement, rain center area and rainfall amount, which is likely to fluctuate in the coming days.
