Khe Sanh mountainous commune has many unusual land subsidence points.

On the afternoon of November 5, the People's Committee of Khe Sanh commune (Quang Tri) said that heavy rains lasting for many days have caused many landslides and subsidence spots on Provincial Road 587 (DT.587) to the area of ​​Huc commune (old) and at a household in Block 2.

On the DT.587 route, there are 4 locations of damaged roadbed and landslides on the negative slope including: Km5+200, Km6+300, Km10+600 and Km13+100. In addition, at Km1+700 of the DT.687 route, the underground spillway is severely damaged, deeply gouged, creating a frog-like shape, with the potential risk of collapse. Some inner-city traffic routes such as the road to Ruong village (block 6), Tran Hoang street and Pham Ngu Lao alley also appear to be cracked and deeply collapsed.

A subsidence point on DT.587.

At Km5+200, the road surface was severely damaged, with a nearly 3m deep hole eating into half the road surface due to erosion from the slope. The erosion streak extended more than 10m along the roadside, causing many difficulties for people to travel. Notably, in the early morning of November 5, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thuong's yard (Block 2) suddenly collapsed, accompanied by cracks in the wall, floor and garden landslides.

The subsidence at Mrs. Thuong's house forced her to reinforce it with bamboo poles to reduce damage.

Ms. Thuong said that a few days before, cracks appeared in the yard. Between 3 and 5 a.m., the entire yard collapsed, and water seeped out from the ground.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Cu, Vice Chairman of Khe Sanh Commune People's Committee, said that the locality has mobilized police, military and grassroots forces to support Ms. Thuong's family in moving people and property to a safe temporary residence.

Authorities moved Ms. Thuong's property to another place.

For landslides on DT.587, the local authorities have reported and recommended that the competent authorities promptly fix them; for now, warning signs will be placed and temporary reinforcements will be made to ensure safety. Particularly at the major landslide site at Km13+100 in Ta Rung village (old Huc commune), the commune has mobilized people to lend land to open a temporary road to serve traffic when the weather is favorable.

Up to now, Khe Sanh commune has organized the evacuation of 5 households with 18 people in areas at risk of landslides to safe places, and continues to monitor to promptly handle any bad developments.
