Patients have been hospitalized sporadically since November 5 with symptoms of abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and dehydration. Of these, Military Hospital 175 has received 100 cases; Gia Dinh People's Hospital has 36 cases, and the rest have been treated at other hospitals.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health determined that the patients' symptoms were likely due to Salmonella infection. Blood culture results from a case at Gia Dinh People's Hospital were also positive for Salmonella (bacteria that cause intestinal diseases). Most of the patients have been discharged, some cases had to be hospitalized, including a 27-year-old pregnant woman.
On the same day, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said it had coordinated with the People's Committee of Hanh Thong Ward to establish an inspection team to verify the incident. At the time of the inspection, the bakery had temporarily suspended operations. The team sealed the food and ingredients, and took samples for testing according to regulations.
