The model has helped the elderly improve their material and spiritual lives, while promoting their roles and experiences, contributing to building a sustainable and affectionate community.
Improve income and quality of life
Up to now, the city has expanded and developed 516 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs (CLBs) and maintained effective operations, with 32,307 participating members.

Chairman of the Hanoi Elderly Association Nguyen The Toan said: In the past 5 years, the Association at all levels has organized 385 training courses to improve knowledge and management skills for 12,815 students. Each Club has an Executive Board and specialized groups such as spiritual care, health care, loan support to increase income, home care volunteers, etc.
In particular, over the past 5 years, the clubs have mobilized more than 17.3 billion VND in capital, of which 49 clubs have a fund of more than 100 million VND; 2,269 members have been able to borrow capital to develop the economy through models such as livestock farming, cultivation, food processing, small businesses, etc., helping many poor and disadvantaged members improve their income and stabilize their lives.

In Hoai Duc commune, the Di Trach village club, with 80 members, has lent 80 million VND to 12 members to develop economic models such as raising chickens, growing clean vegetables, and making cakes. A typical case is Ms. Vuong Thi Ha, who, upon hearing the club's Board of Directors introduce the loan program, boldly borrowed 7 million VND, plus 3 million VND of family capital to expand the area and plant 100 new guava trees. Thanks to being guided on proper care techniques, her guava garden has provided a stable income, helping to have more funds to continue capital rotation.
Ms. Ha shared: “With the loan, I bought a pump, fertilizer for irrigation and some seedlings, and expanded the guava growing area in the garden.” In addition to significantly improving her family’s living standards, Ms. Ha also actively shared techniques with the club’s income-increasing group.

Although it was only established in April 2025 with 55 members, the Doai Khe Village Club (Dan Phuong Commune) has lent 12 members 80 million VND in initial capital. The capital has been effectively circulated, earning 1.6 million VND in interest after 2 months. Ms. Do Thi Sam (75 years old) received a loan of 7 million VND from the club fund to invest in a dough mixer, improving the productivity of making banh te, a traditional family profession. "The monthly income of the couple is about 6 million VND, enough to cover medicine and living expenses. We feel happier because we no longer feel like a burden to our children," Ms. Sam emotionally expressed.
Health care and support for the elderly in need
Not only supporting economic development, Di Trach Village Club (Hoai Duc Commune) also promotes the kindness of the elderly through the Golden Heart Fund to support those in difficulty when sick or ill. The club maintains home care activities with 10 volunteers, taking care of 6 difficult cases.
Among them, the families of Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thin and Mr. Nguyen Van Mau are two single sisters, sick and ill, and are always cared for by the club. Mr. Mau was born mute and in poor health, Mrs. Thin is also sick. The volunteer group regularly comes to take care of them, sweep, do laundry, cook, and give them medicine. Moved by the affection of the club members, Mrs. Thin shared: "Thanks to the help of the uncles and aunts, my sisters and I feel warm and have more motivation to live better every day."

Nguyen Thi Nhan, Head of the Di Trach Village Club, said: “After 2 months of implementation, the home care activities have been recognized by the people and local authorities. The Board of Directors and volunteers have also accumulated more experience, gradually improving their skills in health care for the elderly. Currently, the club is actively searching for and mobilizing resources to provide material support for the elderly in difficult circumstances.”

At Kim Hoang Village Club (Van Canh Commune), the home care volunteer network, with 10 volunteers, has supported 5 sick members, each of whom is visited at least twice a week. This is not only a great source of encouragement for members in difficult times, but also demonstrates the spirit of mutual love and support.
Head of Kim Hoang Village Club Vu Thi Loan said: “The club is not only a place to gather and care for the elderly, but also a typical community development model. With the motto of solidarity, humanity, and sharing, the club is increasingly affirming its important role in improving the material and spiritual life of the elderly, contributing to building a sustainable and affectionate community.”
Similarly, the Doai Khe Village Club also stands out in caring for the elderly in need. The stories of Mr. Nguyen Van Han (70 years old, stroke victim, bedridden) or Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thuc (90 years old, memory loss) show the practical role of the volunteer team. Several times a week, volunteers come to measure blood pressure, massage, do personal hygiene, chat, and encourage. Mrs. Thuc expressed: "Before, the house was always lonely, now every week there are people coming to visit, I feel very happy."
Nguyen Huu Cuong, head of the Doai Khe village club, affirmed: “The club is maintained thanks to the consensus of its members and the support of the government and the community. The most important thing is not to leave anyone behind.”
It is known that in the past 5 years, 498 clubs have coordinated with the health sector to organize 4,237 regular health check-ups, while promoting communication, consultation and prevention of non-communicable diseases. Nearly 2,000 elderly people in difficult circumstances, sick and disabled are being cared for at home by volunteers with a total of 3,487 support sessions.
According to Chairman of the Hanoi Elderly Association Nguyen The Toan, through diverse activities, the Club has made an important contribution to caring for and promoting the role of the elderly, helping them live happily, healthily and joyfully.

In the coming time, the City Elderly Association will continue to advise and propose support mechanisms for clubs, mobilize social resources; strive for each facility to establish at least 2 clubs/year; improve staff capacity through periodic training, increase field inspections; increase experience sharing and annual summaries to improve model quality.
It can be said that the Intergenerational Self-Help Club has truly become one of the models with profound humanity, contributing to building a cohesive, compassionate and sustainable community, thereby spreading the emulation movement "Old Age - Bright Example", contributing to building a civilized, modern and cultured Capital.
