During 3 days (November 7-9, 2025), in Can Tho city, Vietnam Lung Association, Central Lung Hospital and National Tuberculosis Control Program jointly organized the 11th National Lung Disease Scientific Conference (VILA 2025).
With the theme "Application of high technology in diagnosis, treatment and good control of tuberculosis and lung diseases in the community", the conference is the largest annual scientific event of the respiratory sector in Vietnam, attracting more than 700 delegates including professors, doctors, scientists at home and abroad, and representatives of management agencies, hospitals and professional associations nationwide.

Dr. Dinh Van Luong, President of the Vietnam Lung Association, Director of the Central Lung Hospital, Head of the Executive Board of the National Tuberculosis Control Program, delivered the opening speech at the 11th National Lung Disease Scientific Conference.
In his opening speech, Dr. Dinh Van Luong, President of the Vietnam Lung Association, Director of the Central Lung Hospital, Head of the National Tuberculosis Control Program, emphasized: "With more than 60 years of experience from its predecessor, the Vietnam Tuberculosis Control Association, the National Lung Disease Scientific Conference has become a prestigious scientific forum where physicians and experts in the field of respiratory medicine exchange, update and share the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment and prevention of respiratory diseases."
Bringing knowledge and technology to places with high disease burden
Tuberculosis remains one of the biggest public health burdens in Vietnam, especially in the Mekong Delta. According to the latest update, the current TB incidence rate in the Mekong Delta is 182 cases/100,000 people, higher than the national average. The rate of drug-resistant TB in the region is alarming. The Mekong Delta is one of the places with the highest rates of TB and drug-resistant TB in the country.
Currently, the success rate of treating drug-resistant tuberculosis patients in Vietnam is more than 70%, while the global figure is about 50%. The burden of disease and medical costs caused by this group of diseases is huge.
According to Dr. Dinh Van Luong, organizing this conference in the Southern region not only has scientific significance but also demonstrates the determination of the health sector in bringing knowledge and technology to places with the highest disease burden.

"The South is both a major economic and agricultural center, but at the same time it is also the region with the highest rate of tuberculosis in the country - "The rice granary is also the tuberculosis granary" - so organizing the conference here helps experts and doctors in the Southwest region have the opportunity to directly access the latest medical advances, and at the same time immediately deploy practical intervention models to control tuberculosis effectively and sustainably", said Dr. Dinh Van Luong.
Prestigious scientific forum, spreading the spirit of innovation and cooperation for healthy lungs of Vietnamese people
Dr. Dinh Van Luong affirmed that the discussions and professional exchanges at the conference will contribute to improving the quality of diagnosis, treatment and lung health care for Vietnamese people, in line with the spirit of Resolution 72-NQ/TW of the Politburo and the direction of the Prime Minister on strengthening tuberculosis prevention and control.

The 11th National Lung Disease Scientific Conference attracted more than 700 domestic and foreign experts and scientists in the field of tuberculosis and lung diseases.
This year's conference brings together 187 scientific reports, 05 continuing education programs (CME), 03 overview sessions and 16 in-depth thematic sessions. The topics focus on key areas such as:
- Application of artificial intelligence (AI) in screening for tuberculosis and lung disease in the community;
- Lung transplantation and modern thoracic surgery;

- Update on strategies for the management of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, and infectious lung disease;
- Field research and community intervention model, aiming to end tuberculosis in Vietnam by 2030.

Many scientific papers were presented at the conference.
Scientific activities at the conference clearly demonstrated the spirit of innovation - creativity - cooperation - development, linking research and clinical practice, between modern medicine and the practical needs of patients.
In addition to professional activities, the VILA 2025 Conference is also an opportunity to honor collectives and individuals who have made many contributions to public health care and the activities of the Vietnam Lung Association; at the same time, it acknowledges the support of domestic and foreign medical and pharmaceutical units and enterprises in promoting the application of science and technology in the respiratory field.
The VILA 2025 Conference is not only a place to gather scientific knowledge but also a symbol of dedication, responsibility and commitment to act for healthy lungs of Vietnamese people, towards a healthy and sustainably developed Vietnam.
