According to Traditional Medicine, the effect of "treating colds" is to help clear the meridians, circulate blood and qi, relax muscles and clear meridians, regulate the flow of meridians, enhance vitality, dispel evil spirits, and dissipate heat...

This method is suitable for cases of mild fever with muscle aches, stiff neck, headache due to cold, heat stroke or fever due to sunstroke.

Massage helps improve microcirculation and dilate capillaries through local stimulation, but does not directly destroy infectious pathogens and does not significantly affect the body's thermoregulation process. Therefore, according to pediatricians, when the fever is high, patients should not be treated with this method.

In addition, in adults with weak constitutions, prone to bleeding, damaged skin (with ulcers, hemorrhagic rash) or cardiovascular diseases, treating colds with chicken eggs and coins/silver strings can also cause adverse reactions.

In children with fragile skin, immature organs, and rapid disease progression, this method should not be used to reduce fever or relieve colds.

"Kicking a cold in children can cause damage to the skin's epidermis, increase the risk of infection or cause the child to have a higher fever. This also delays treatment in cases of high fever due to bacterial infection or fever related to autoimmune diseases, cancer, and hematological diseases," the pediatrician advised.

Sharing more, the doctor analyzed that fever is a common symptom in children, due to the immune system and body temperature regulation not being fully developed. This is the body's reaction to activate immunity, inhibiting microorganisms. Most cases are caused by viruses, mild and self-healing but need to be monitored to avoid life-threatening complications.

According to pediatricians, fever in children is divided into acute (under 14 days), prolonged (over 14 days) or cyclical. The main causes include two groups: infectious and non-infectious.

Fever due to infection accounts for the majority of fever cases in children, caused by viruses such as rhinovirus, coronavirus, adenovirus causing colds; herpesvirus, rotavirus leading to measles, mumps, hand, foot and mouth disease, dengue virus. Fever can also be a manifestation of respiratory infections, gastrointestinal infections, encephalitis, meningitis, and joint infections.

Meanwhile, non-infectious fever is less common, with causes including dehydration, heatstroke, Kawasaki disease, hives, drug/food allergies, fever due to neutropenia. In addition, some other factors that cause fever are teething, fever after vaccination, lymphoma.

Fever is a symptom of many different diseases, so parents need to closely monitor their child's fever, observe unusual warning signs and take their child to a medical facility for examination, determine the correct cause and timely treatment, ensuring the child's health.
