Statistics from the third quarter financial reports of 27 commercial banks show that total customer deposits by the end of September reached more than 12.26 million billion VND.
Among them, the “Big 4” group still dominates in terms of deposit size. BIDV leads with over VND2,000 trillion, up 0.6%, continuing to hold the No. 1 position. VietinBank ranks second with nearly VND1,800 trillion, up 3.2% over the same period, while Vietcombank ranks third with over VND1,600 trillion, up 1.6%.
In the group of joint stock commercial banks, MB Bank stands out with total deposits of up to 788,030 billion VND, up 0.6%. Next is Sacombank with 641,102 billion VND, up 2.7% over the same period.
Notably, Techcombank recorded the strongest increase of 9.2%, helping the bank move up three places from 9th to 6th. Currently, the deposit balance at Techcombank is at VND595,087 billion.
In contrast, VPBank decreased by 2.5%, falling from 6th to 7th place, being one of the few large-scale private banks with a decrease in deposits in the quarter.
The following positions remained relatively stable. Of which, ACB, SHB and HDBank maintained their rankings from 8 to 10, with increases ranging from 0.6 to 1.9%.
In the mid-range group, LPBank, TPBank, MSB and SeABank all increased well, from 4.2-6.6%....
From the beginning of the year to September, interest rates were low, but deposits from residents as of the end of July recorded the highest increase in 5 years, reaching a record 7,748 trillion VND.
According to the State Bank, as of the end of July, people's deposits in the banking system reached over 7,748 trillion VND, recording an increase of nearly 9.7% compared to the beginning of the year.
Accordingly, residential deposits still recorded the strongest increase in 5 years, compared to the growth rate of the same period in previous years. Meanwhile, the average savings interest rate has remained low at under 6% throughout the past time. At the same time, other investment channels such as stocks, gold, and real estate have also become more active.
