On the afternoon of November 11, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City and related departments and branches had a working session with the principals of 8 universities (public and private) in the area, to listen to opinions and propose specific mechanisms for the city in the field of education .
Proposing a special mechanism
According to Ms. Tran Thi Huyen, Acting Director of the Department of Education and Training, Can Tho City currently has 8 universities, branches, and training facilities. Of these, there are 4 public schools and 4 private schools.
At the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Trung Tinh, Rector of Can Tho University, proposed that the city apply the mechanism of ordering training, especially training for general English teachers. The goal is to implement the roadmap to make English the second language in the city.
In addition, Mr. Tinh also recommended that the city consider funding and assigning tasks to large-scale scientific research programs, instead of small-scale projects. These programs should aim to create products linked with domestic and foreign enterprises.
The Rector of Can Tho University also proposed that the city ask the Central Government for a special mechanism on capital allocation or interest-free loans for universities. This is to help schools have resources to invest in facilities and reduce financial pressure.
Mr. Tinh explained that public schools cannot borrow capital because school assets are state assets and cannot be mortgaged.
On the side of FPT University, the school's leadership representative proposed that the city allocate land in the old Can Tho City area for the school to invest in an inter-level school. The school committed to quickly invest in an inter-level school and advanced programs when land is available, contributing to the achievements and movements of the city.
Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee pledges to take action
At the meeting, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, affirmed that the opinions of the teachers were very dedicated and responsible.
"This is also the basis for city leaders to research, supplement, and organize implementation in the education sector in the coming time," Mr. Tuyen emphasized.

Mr. Tuyen said that in the near future, the city will establish an advisory board and invite scientists in various fields to participate and support the leaders of the City Party Committee and People's Committee. The advisory group will guide the proposal of resolutions or the implementation process to ensure that projects and plans are implemented to ensure the city's development.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Can Tho City also shared the difficulties of schools such as limited land fund and lack of facilities, and at the same time acknowledged the contributions of schools in human resource training, contributing to the socio-economic development of the city.
In the coming time, regarding planning and infrastructure, the head of the city government assigned the Director of the Department of Construction to urgently review all locations of existing and planned schools, coordinate with the Department of Finance to make integrated planning, and ensure infrastructure synchronization.
Regarding human resource development and talent attraction, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of Education and the Department of Health are assigned to coordinate with the Department of Finance to develop policies (attracting, rewarding, supporting...) human resources. Mr. Tuyen emphasized that this is one of the very important contents in the action program of the Resolution of the Can Tho City Party Congress.
Regarding promoting scientific research and innovation, the Director of the Department of Science and Technology was assigned to proactively advise the City People's Committee on proposals from teachers, especially the early completion of the Science and Technology Research Fund.
Mr. Tuyen also suggested that schools study the former headquarters of Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces. Schools need to inform the city about any locations they need so that the city can arrange these public assets, following the general policy of prioritizing arrangements for education and health care.
