In the journey of building a central urban area in the South of Ha Tinh, Song Tri ward is not only known for its strong development speed in infrastructure and socio-economy , but also a bright spot in multidimensional poverty reduction.

After merging administrative boundaries, Song Tri became a ward with a large population of nearly 37,000 people, with diverse socio-economic conditions.

From flexible and creative solutions, Song Tri has shifted from "pure support" to "creating livelihoods, inspiring the will to rise up", helping people proactively escape poverty by their own strength. After merging administrative boundaries, Song Tri has become a ward with a large population of more than 37,000 people, with diverse socio-economic conditions, including urban areas, production areas, and service labor areas. This is also a transit area of the Vung Ang economic zone with many areas creating opportunities but also posing many challenges in ensuring social security.

According to statistics, currently Song Tri ward has only 104 poor households (accounting for 1.14%, down 0.01% compared to the end of 2024) and 201 near-poor households (accounting for 2.21%, down 0.13% compared to the end of 2024).

Mr. Nguyen Huy Hieu, Head of the Economic - Urban Department, Song Tri Ward People's Committee said: "After the merger, the area is large, the population is dense and very diverse in terms of composition from officials, workers, business households to immigrant workers... so poverty reduction work must have a flexible and practical approach. We implement it in a multi-dimensional and targeted way, that is, clearly identify what each household lacks - capital, profession, job, housing or learning and medical conditions to support correctly and accurately...".

Instead of providing widespread support, the ward focuses on creating long-term livelihoods, connecting businesses, providing vocational training, helping people have stable jobs and be self-sufficient in income. The goal is for each poor and disadvantaged household not only to escape material poverty but also to integrate sustainably into urban life, keeping pace with the dynamic development of Song Tri today.

In 2025, implementing the policy of eliminating temporary houses and dilapidated thatched houses, Song Tri ward built new houses and repaired 53 houses for people.

Song Tri Ward has strengthened its links with businesses in the Vung Ang Economic Zone, expanding job introduction channels and short-term vocational training for local people. At the same time, it has coordinated with the Social Policy Bank to disburse billions of dong in preferential capital, helping households invest in livestock farming, small businesses, mechanical repairs, services, etc.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, Dong Trinh residential group shared: “My family was able to borrow 90 million VND, plus borrowing from relatives to implement a comprehensive livestock farming model. My family’s model generates an annual income of more than 100 million VND, thanks to which we have escaped the previous difficult situation. The most precious thing is that the government trusts and encourages us to have more confidence to move forward…”.

One of the creative features of Song Tri is combining poverty reduction with the movement to build a civilized urban area. The ward has integrated the criteria of "bright - green - clean - beautiful", improving alleys, mobilizing residents to participate in community digital transformation with poverty reduction work. Thanks to that, poverty reduction is not only about economic support but also associated with improving the quality of life, improving the landscape, and urban behavior culture.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan - Secretary of the Party Cell of Residential Area 2 said: "The Party Cell identifies poverty reduction as a regular political task. Each Party member is assigned to be in charge of 1-2 disadvantaged households, closely following them to guide them on how to do business and use loans effectively. The monthly Party Cell meetings always include an assessment of poverty reduction progress, thereby creating a ripple effect throughout the residential area..."

Social security work and basic service support are also focused. In 2025, implementing the policy of eliminating temporary houses and dilapidated thatched houses, the ward built and repaired 53 houses (of which 28 were newly built and 25 were repaired) for poor households, near-poor households, and households in difficult circumstances; 100% of poor and near-poor households have health insurance cards; in the period of 2021-2025, preferential policies were implemented for 276 households belonging to the poor, near-poor, and newly escaped-poverty categories, with a total amount of nearly 16 billion VND.

The ward also pioneered the application of digital transformation in poor household management, updating all data on electronic software, helping to monitor, review, and evaluate households escaping poverty more transparently and objectively.

Mr. Phan Van Quang - Chairman of Song Tri Ward People's Committee said: "The biggest success is to change the "poverty reduction mindset". We do not consider poor households as mere objects of support, but as subjects of change. The government accompanies, guides, and helps them stand on their own feet with their own careers and labor. Sustainable poverty reduction is when people have jobs, skills, and confidence - that is the spirit that the Party Committee and the ward government persistently pursue...".

The achievements in multidimensional poverty reduction in Song Tri ward are not only reflected in the numbers, but also in the clear changes in people's awareness and life. From residential areas that used to face many difficulties, small economic models, service complexes, and civilized boarding houses serving workers have now been formed; children can go to school fully, the living environment has been improved, and the neighborhood is more closely connected...

The journey of poverty reduction in Song Tri ward is a vivid demonstration of the spirit of "economic development coupled with ensuring social security" - a creative and humane approach of the central ward in the South of Ha Tinh. When the government creates opportunities, when people confidently rise up, the goal of "leaving no one behind" is no longer a slogan, but has become a reality on every street and residential area of Song Tri today.
