On the afternoon of November 8, the Medical Affairs Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that the number of suspected food poisoning cases after eating bread from a shop on Nguyen Thai Son Street, Hanh Thong Tay Ward continued to increase.

Notably, a pregnant woman over 34 weeks pregnant was recorded to have eaten bread of the same brand, but bought at the branch on Le Quang Dinh Street. This person is currently in a state of threatened premature labor.

Accordingly, as of the afternoon of November 8, 4 hospitals had reported to the Department of Health with 141 cases ( 175 Military Hospital recorded 100 cases, Tam Anh General Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City 20 cases, Gia Dinh People's Hospital 19 cases, Binh Dan Hospital 1 case, My Duc Phu Nhuan Hospital 1 case).

According to a report from Military Hospital 175, on November 6, 7 and 8, the hospital received, examined, provided emergency care and treated 100 cases of suspected infection and food poisoning.

The general diagnosis for the cases is food poisoning and infection, and all have an epidemiological factor related to eating bread at a shop on Nguyen Thai Son Street, Hanh Thong Ward.

Most patients present with symptoms of nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, fatigue, varying degrees of severity. Laboratory findings include increased white blood cells and CRP.

The hospital has implemented a treatment regimen that includes fluid and electrolyte replacement, antibiotics, and monitoring for complications of septic shock and fluid and electrolyte disorders. To date, 87 cases have been examined and discharged as outpatients, and 13 cases have been hospitalized for further monitoring and care.

Tam Anh Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City reported that as of the afternoon of November 8, it had received 20 cases of poisoning after eating bread, an increase of 4 cases compared to the morning of November 7.

My Duc Phu Nhuan Hospital also admitted patient D.TTH (28 years old, residing in An Hoi Dong ward, Ho Chi Minh City) who is 34 weeks pregnant and was admitted to the hospital due to stomachache after eating bread.

Ms. H. stated that she ate bread of the same brand as the previous food poisoning cases, but bought it at the branch on Le Quang Dinh Street.

On the evening of November 6, after dinner, she had a stomachache and diarrhea once, without fever. On the morning of November 7, she had diarrhea again, yellow, loose stools, no mucus or blood, after that she has not had diarrhea or vomiting until now.

On the same afternoon, Ms. H. felt her abdomen was very tense, no cough, no painful urination, no signs of bleeding, so she went to My Duc Phu Nhuan Hospital for examination. Ms. H. had an ultrasound on November 7, which showed that the baby weighed 2,350 grams, the doppler was normal, and there were 3 contractions in 10 minutes.

My Duc Phu Nhuan Hospital ordered her to be hospitalized with a diagnosis of threatened premature labor. Currently, the mother's health is stable, no more abdominal pain or diarrhea.

According to Tuoi Tre Online 's investigation, the bakery that caused hundreds of poisoning cases has two branches on Nguyen Thai Son Street and Le Quang Dinh Street.

Poisoning is likely due to Salmonella bacteria.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, clinical and paraclinical data of most patients with food poisoning after eating bread are consistent with intestinal bacteria, most likely Salmonella.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Health has directed hospitals to ensure admission, classification and treatment according to the treatment regimen for food poisoning issued by the department, including: rehydration - electrolytes, monitoring vital signs and organ function, appropriate paraclinical indications, taking stool samples and blood cultures when suspected of invasive infection before using antibiotics.

If antibiotics are indicated, consider the direction of Salmonella enteric bacteria and adjust according to antibiotic susceptibility testing when available.

Hospitals have implemented a quick reporting regime for the medical department, and at the same time coordinated to provide information to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety to serve the tracing and verification work.
