Launching the project "115 years of Storytelling Theatre - Heritage spoken through light and technology"
For more than a century, the Hanoi Opera House has been a "cathedral" of opera, symphony, and drama - a place where artists perform and audiences listen. "But for the first time in history, the theater has temporarily closed its doors to daily performances to become "its own stage" - said Mr. Chu Anh Hung, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Opera House.
From "heritage to admire" to "space to experience"
"The entire space, from the lobby, stairs, auditorium to the dome, will be "awakened" by light, images and sounds, recreating memories of more than a century of architectural heritage," Mr. Chu Anh Hung excitedly shared.
According to Mr. Hung, the idea, which had been nurtured for more than a year, was "green-lighted" very quickly: within just one week, the Theater and its partners completed the project and received consensus from management agencies - a rare speed for a cultural - technological project in the heritage space.
Calling this "a bold and timely decision", Mr. Hung said: "Over the past 100 years, the Opera House has organized thousands of performances. But for the first time, the Opera House itself has become the stage to tell its own story. We want to give the audience a special journey: no longer sitting on chairs but walking among the heritage, hearing - seeing - touching the memories of 115 years".
"Not only is this an art event, it is also an effort to connect history - art - technology, turning the Opera House from a "heritage to admire" into a "vibrant space to experience", Mr. Hung added.
Mr. Ngo Xuan Minh, Director of Hexogon Vietnam, the partner of the Opera House in this project, shared that the public will be able to participate in the heritage storytelling journey, using advanced performance technologies such as 3D mapping, hologram, augmented reality (AR) and multi-layer storytelling art. According to Mr. Minh, the program brings the public an immersive experience, where the boundary between the audience and the performance space is blurred.
With multi-sensory interactive art, viewers not only observe but also immerse themselves in the flow of the story, take on roles, interact with space and light, and feel history through the language of technology.

Hanoi Opera House, cultural symbol of the capital
"Living in memory" with light
Mr. Chu Anh Hung said that this is the first time 3D mapping technology has been used in the Opera House, previously this technology was only used outside the theater. "The audience will see images of Hanoi's architectural history, and stand on stage to admire the entire 3D mapping projected in the auditorium and on the theater ceiling."
The breath of heritage is at the center, with the entire space - from the lobby, stairs, corridors, auditorium to the dome - becoming a storytelling sequence using 3D mapping, holograms, AR and multi-layered storytelling. The audience no longer sits still; they move through history, guided through the "memory layers" of architecture and urbanism, to feel heritage in the way of the digital age.
115 years of Storytelling Theatre - Heritage speaks with light and technology , created with the desire to bring art closer to the public. In each frame of light, each melody of sound, people can find a part of the memory of the Capital.
Creative director Le Ngoc Quy said that for those who make the program, this is an opportunity to accompany a national cultural symbol, affirming social responsibility in creating sustainable values. The project aims for a long-term vision - to become an annual series of artistic experiences in the capital, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam as creative, friendly and rich in identity to the world .
Mr. Chu Anh Hung said that for Hanoi, this is an opportunity to demonstrate its position as an international cultural and creative center, where heritage is told through the language of technology, both honoring the past and opening up the future. For the cultural sector, the project is a pioneering model in "telling heritage stories with technology", proving that preservation is not only about preserving, but also about reviving and spreading values through digital creativity.
The 115th Anniversary Storytelling Theatre Project - Heritage Speaks Through Light and Technology is a gift of gratitude to the past and a greeting to the future. In the heart of Hanoi, the heritage of more than a century will "speak" through the language of light - a language without borders, telling the story of the journey of art, people and the creative city called Hanoi. This is an important step in applying technology to preserve and promote heritage, contributing to affirming the position of Hanoi - a Creative City recognized by UNESCO, where classical values are revived through contemporary art.
The project was organized at the right time when the Opera House is preparing to enter a restoration phase of about 1.5 to 2 years. As soon as the last night of December 31 ends, the Opera House will enter a comprehensive restoration.
