According to the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria, the Vietnamese community in Algeria currently has about 2,000 people, divided into two groups: cadres, employees, engineers, and workers with about 500 people; and about 1,500 people of Vietnamese origin or with part of Vietnamese blood. The Vietnamese community in Algeria is always united, conscious of preserving national cultural identity, working hard and obeying local laws. People are always proud of the development achievements and position of the country; always looking towards their homeland and country.
At the meeting, the people expressed their emotion at meeting the Prime Minister and receiving the attention of the Party and State. At the same time, they shared their desire to return to visit their homeland, but due to economic difficulties, they have not been able to do so. Affirming their willingness to strive and foster the Vietnam-Algeria relationship, as well as develop the socio-economy and build their homeland and country, they proposed that the Prime Minister work with the Algerian Government to allow the establishment of the Vietnamese Association in Algeria; organize more Vietnamese cultural activities in Algeria; have preferential policies for overseas Vietnamese in difficult areas so that they have the opportunity to return and participate in activities in the country...
Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh respectfully thanked the Vietnamese people in Algeria for their sentiments towards the delegation, as well as towards their homeland and country; affirming the "national love and compatriotism" of the Vietnamese people as well as many other Vietnamese people at home and abroad.
Conveying the greetings of the Party and State leaders, General Secretary To Lam to the Vietnamese community in Algeria, the Prime Minister said that although Vietnam and Algeria are geographically far apart, they have had a long-standing relationship, especially in the process of fighting together to gain and protect national independence of each country. Over the past 60 years, the traditional friendship between Vietnam and Algeria has been constantly promoted, consolidated and developed well in many fields. The Prime Minister hopes that the Vietnamese community in Algeria will maintain, nurture and foster the good relationship between Vietnam and Algeria so that it will increasingly blossom, bear fruit, and be forever green and sustainable.
The Prime Minister believes that there is still a lot of room for economic relations between Vietnam and Algeria. During this visit, the Prime Minister and Algerian leaders will discuss ways to elevate the relationship between the two countries to a new level, on that basis, promoting economic relations commensurate with political relations, on that basis strengthening business connections, people-to-people connections, cultural exchanges, etc.
Providing information on the country's situation, the Prime Minister said that after 80 years of national independence, going through a long period of war, siege and embargo, Vietnam has carried out the renovation process. From a poor and backward country, Vietnam now has an economic scale of about 510 billion USD, ranked 32nd in the world; average income per capita is about 5,000 USD, belonging to the group of upper middle-income countries. People's lives have been constantly improved; Vietnam's happiness index in the past 5 years increased 37 places to 46th in 2025; during his term, 1.1 million billion VND was spent on social security, equivalent to 17% of GDP; Vietnam has completed the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide.
Sharing the strategic tasks that our country is carrying out to bring the country into a new era, the Prime Minister said that the Vietnamese community abroad has more than 6 million people. Determining that the Vietnamese community abroad is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, the Party and State have issued many policies such as on real estate, land, housing, citizen identification, visa policy... creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese people abroad to have the opportunity to return to their roots in the most convenient way.
Moved by the "national love and compatriotism" of the people, the Prime Minister hopes that people will always unite, study, work well, obey local laws; continue to maintain love for the homeland and country, national pride; continue to contribute to building a rich, powerful and prosperous homeland and country.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh requested the Vietnamese Embassy in Algeria as well as Vietnamese embassies abroad to set up a hotline or have the most convenient and easy way to exchange and receive information to connect the community, especially to receive and handle citizen protection issues, or when people are in need. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is researching and building a "correct, sufficient, clean, live, and interconnected" information portal to inform the community, the situation in Vietnam, and Vietnam's relations with host countries around the world.
Also at the meeting, representatives of the Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Academy awarded five scholarships to Vietnamese children in Algeria to return to Vietnam to study at the Academy.
