Troops deployed to search, collect and gather the remains of martyrs who died in Cambodia

On the morning of November 19, Steering Committee 515 of Gia Lai province held a departure ceremony, assigning tasks to the Search and Collection Team of martyrs' remains in Cambodia, dry season 2025 - 2026.

Attending the event were leaders of the Provincial People's Committee, the Provincial Military Command and related agencies and units, along with officers and soldiers of the Team for Searching and Collecting Martyrs' Remains in Cambodia (Team K52).

In the dry season of 2025-2026, the search and collection of remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who died in the Kingdom of Cambodia continues to be a key, difficult but noble and sacred task, and is identified by Gia Lai province as a "heart's command". This activity shows the deep gratitude of the Party Committee, government and people of the province to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for international missions.

Preparations for this year's dry season mission were carried out seriously and thoroughly. Team K52 has completed its organization and staffing, selected experienced officers who are knowledgeable about the area and fluent in Cambodian as the core. The team has organized additional training, professional development, and political and ideological education for officers and soldiers, ensuring that the force has a spirit of determination and high professional skills before departure.

From June to October 2025, Team K52 coordinated with Cambodian localities to survey 254 villages in 47 communes, spanning 13 districts in 3 provinces of Ratanakiri, Stung Treng and Preah Vihear; collected 28 pieces of information on martyrs' graves (of which 5 pieces of information were verified and had a basis), from which 1 remains were collected. These initial results are an important basis for Team K52 to officially deploy its mission in the 2025-2026 dry season, ensuring efficiency and safety.

At the ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of Steering Committee 515 of Gia Lai province, praised the sense of responsibility and efforts of Team K52 in the past time; at the same time, emphasized that the search and collection of martyrs' remains, although facing many difficulties in terms of terrain, information and harsh weather, is a sacred and noble task that needs to be carried out with a spirit of urgency, seriousness and caution.

The Vice Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested that the Provincial Task Force and the Provincial Military Command regularly educate the political ideology of the forces on duty, strictly comply with military discipline and the laws of the two countries; strengthen propaganda and mobilization work to collect more information, serving the search and regrouping work to achieve the highest efficiency. At the same time, the provincial leaders requested to pay attention, encourage, visit and help the officers and soldiers of Team K52 and the rear, fully resolve the regimes, policies, legitimate aspirations of the forces directly on duty.

The search and collection forces need to uphold their sense of responsibility, clearly define their tasks, and be determined to overcome difficulties in information, terrain, and harsh weather. They must concentrate their forces and means to check and verify information, and conduct collection at locations where information has been collected with basis in the provinces of Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, and Preah Vihear (Cambodia).

During the dry season of 2024-2025, Team K52 carried out the task of searching, collecting and collecting the remains of 23 martyrs who died in Cambodia, bringing the total number of remains collected in the country over the past 24 years to 1,512 sets. This result demonstrates a high sense of responsibility, effort and deep gratitude to the heroic martyrs, contributing to the implementation of the nation's morality of "When drinking water, remember its source".

This departure ceremony marks the beginning of the new dry season with the high determination of Gia Lai province and the entire K52 Team in carrying out the sacred mission of bringing the martyrs' remains back to rest in their homeland; at the same time, continuing to mark the close and effective coordination between agencies and units of Gia Lai province and functional forces of Cambodian provinces in the work of searching, collecting and repatriating the martyrs' remains.
