Smart irrigation training, semiconductor technology elevates the school to the top of the industry

Opening new majors, as assessed by Deputy Minister Hoang Trung, will help the University of Water Resources improve its training capacity, meeting the increasing needs of society.

The fire of knowledge from school

On the morning of November 20, the University of Water Resources celebrated Vietnamese Teachers' Day with the joy of receiving congratulatory flowers from National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, Minister of Agriculture and Environment Tran Duc Thang, along with many ministries, branches, localities, and generations of alumni of the school.

Professor Dr. Nguyen Trung Viet, Principal, considers this a recognition, demonstrating the school's close relationship with education , as well as the country's development throughout more than 65 years of history.

In the general joy, he said that the school currently has nearly 24,000 students, including more than 6,000 new students. 9 training programs have been accredited, many of which have achieved a score of over 90%, and for the first time the school has appeared on the QS Asia rankings. From the next school year, a series of new majors such as financial technology, semiconductor technology - microchip design, smart irrigation engineering or smart urban management will be opened to meet the new human resource needs of the market.

Regarding science and technology, the school is presiding over 11 state-level tasks and 6 fund-sponsored tasks, with a total budget of more than 130 billion VND. More than 600 research topics and contracts have been implemented, bringing in revenue of about 400 billion VND. Last year, the school's lecturers published 252 international articles, of which 70 were in group Q1. The school was also granted 6 patents and 2 useful solutions.

“These results show that the research and transfer capacity of the teaching staff is continuing to be strengthened,” said Professor Viet.

Student activities recorded many positive results with nearly 3,000 graduates, many startup projects entered the final round and won prizes at SV-STARTUP 2025. Scholarships worth billions of VND from businesses and alumni were awarded to support students with achievements.

Along with academic and research work, the school promotes many extracurricular activities. Two competitions for creating slogans and designing uniforms for the University of Water Resources attracted nearly 500 entries. The jury selected the best entries and awarded prizes at the ceremony.

"Today's results are the result of the nurturing of many generations of teachers," the principal shared, affirming that the school will continue to adhere to the goal of becoming a research university, innovating, expanding international cooperation and upgrading facilities to better serve learners.

Strive to be in the top 10 technical school groups

On behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, Deputy Minister Hoang Trung acknowledged the results that the university has achieved in recent times, especially in the context that technical human resources are one of the three strategic breakthroughs mentioned at the 13th Congress. “The University of Water Resources has trained tens of thousands of engineers, masters, and doctors for ministries, branches, localities, research institutes, and enterprises across the country, and has also participated in training for many other countries,” he said.

According to the Deputy Minister, in recent years, the school has made significant progress in training and research. The structure of occupations has expanded from traditional fields to new fields. Enrollment remains stable, with more than 5,000 students per year. The rate of students having jobs after graduation is among the top in the country.

In terms of research, the university continues to be one of the leading units in irrigation, hydropower, water resources, environment and disaster prevention. Many research results have been applied in flood forecasting, reservoir operation and protection of irrigation infrastructure. International cooperation has been expanded with many universities and organizations in Asia and Europe.

The Ministry's leaders requested the school to continue implementing Resolution 71 of the Politburo on educational and training breakthroughs, aiming to be among the top 10 engineering - technology - economic schools in the country and maintain the No. 1 position in the field of irrigation and water resources.

The school is recommended to continue promoting the opening of new majors in a multi-disciplinary direction, streamlining the organization, improving autonomy, increasing links with businesses in training and research, and expanding student support activities through clubs, soft skills, and professional exchanges.

"The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment affirms that it will continue to accompany and create conditions for the school to develop into a training, research and technology transfer center of the industry," Deputy Minister Hoang Trung emphasized, expressing his belief that the school will successfully complete its tasks in the new period and continue to expand its influence in Vietnam's technical education system.

Authorized by the Prime Minister and the Minister, Deputy Minister Hoang Trung awarded the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit to the Department of Construction Technology and Management (Faculty of Construction) and 7 individuals, including Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Quang, Vice Rector of Thuyloi University.

Also on the occasion of November 20, the State Council of Professors awarded certificates of qualification for the title of professor and associate professor in 2025 to 6 staff and lecturers of the University of Water Resources. Along with that, 3 staff of the school were awarded the "For the Young Generation" Medal by the Central Youth Union.
