Coffee prices around the world today fell sharply after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to remove the additional 40% tax imposed on Brazilian food, including beef, cocoa and fruits.
According to the White House announcement, the tax removal takes effect from November 13. Taxes paid after this date can be refunded.
On November 20, the White House announced an expansion of the list of Brazilian goods exempted from high import tariffs imposed since August, citing “initial progress” in bilateral trade negotiations.
The decision is seen as a major diplomatic victory for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and comes just days after US President Donald Trump slashed reciprocal tariffs on many global agricultural products not grown domestically, amid pressure from unfavorable surveys on his economic management and inflation.

The move is largely driven by domestic political considerations in the US, said Thiago de Aragão, director of Arko International in Washington. Newly exempted products such as bananas, pine nuts and orange juice bring the total exemptions to about two-fifths of Brazil's exports to the US.
Previously, Mr. Trump imposed a 40% tax on Brazilian goods – plus a 10% reciprocal tax – bringing the tax rate up to 50%, creating a serious diplomatic crisis between the two largest economies in the Americas.
As Washington looks to ease regional trade tensions, US officials last week also confirmed reaching a “framework” trade agreement with Argentina, Ecuador, Guatemala and El Salvador, in which tariff reductions on essential food items are likely to be included in the final content.
Thus, the world coffee price today, November 22, 2025, is decreasing compared to yesterday.
